[ to the lovely person who requested: i hope you enjoy reading this! <3 ]

Being Varian's assistant was a 24/7 job, one that you didn't mind doing. He was sweet, caring, and smart. The fact you could gaze upon that freckled face everyday was a blessing onto it's own.

Your boyfriend and you would be tinkering away on any interesting material parts you two could get your hands on. Whether, it be lasting all morning to all day. Today, it seemed to be the latter.

Varian seemed to not notice the hours tick by, excitedly talking about any information he found as useful or notable. His hands moving fluidly to follow his words. While you could never multitask as well as Varian, he assured you that your part was just as important as his.

Most of the time, researching and providing your thoughts on one of his inventions was how you helped him. He never forgets to thank you after you do. He says that feedback is always an important part in an alchemist's work.

This time though, you worked to research a certain element Varian and you stumbled upon in the woods. Varian was preforming experiments on said element, as you were studying it through the many books you found in the library.

By the end of the day, the two of you would compare notes. Breaking down any ideas you've had on the element. With the two of you so absorbed in your work and studies, the recollection of taking a break slipped your mind.

With Varian beside you, his hair a ball of mess and eyes despite being tired, glistened with new found interest and ideas, as you spoke your thoughts.

"I think if we ran a few more tests, heading towards the direction of using hydroponics and one of your more recent inventions, we can advance plant and crop growth." Passing Varian a graph you assembled, which tied to your research, you continue. "Since, the element reacted more towards water and less to fire."

Going over the graph, Varian glances towards his notebook. A breakdown of variables used in the experiments he's conducted. "You're right. In the second set of using fire against it, the reaction heavily depended on the oxygen around-"

A loud grumbling cuts Varian off. Holding your stomach lightly with one hand, you pause.

Light giggling brings back your attention to Varian, there's a small smile tugging across his lips. "Oh, darling, was that your tummy rumbling? Kinda sounded like the roar of a lion."

Feeling embarrassed at Varian's light teasing, you tilt your head downwards, avoiding his eyes. At the moment, your face feels flushed. Wanting the ground to open up and swallow you whole. The hand that was touching your stomach, starts to grip hard onto your shirt.

As soon as Varian realizes his mistake, he grabs at the hand on your shirt, intertwining it with his own. His quiet words draw your eyes towards him. "Hey, it's okay."

You feel a hand rub gentle circles on your stomach. Lifting your chin up, you watch as those baby blue irises are on you. The familiar smile that causes butterflies in your stomach.

"When was the last time you ate something, sweetie?" He asks.

"I don't know? Maybe, the day before."

Lips are pressed onto your forehead, a soft and sweet kiss from Varian. You look to him in shock, all that's returned is his bright smile. "That's no good, honey. You need to eat. I say let's go make some ham sandwiches. Does that sound good to you?"

Just as you nod in agreement. Varian's own stomach begins to rumble. Looking towards him with an arched brow, he explains himself.

Rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly, he gives you a shy smile. "Okay, okay, I may or may not have skipped lunch today. I just really wanted to get some extra work done."

Offering him a peck on the cheek, you propose, "Let's both get something to eat. I'm not opposed to eating some ham sandwiches."

Varian's face lights up. "Great! I'm not opposed to making us some."
