Lily was surrounded by suffocating darkness and complete silence. Everything was so quiet and black, and she couldn't move. It was terrifying. Every so often, she could hear a faint beeping sound, but it was gone before she could place it. Lily had no idea where she was, but she was all alone. All she wanted was to escape, but every time she tried, she couldn't move. It was paralyzing.
Coming to the conclusion that this had been going on for too long, Lily decided she was going to try moving around. She had been wasting space, lying there doing nothing. The next time she heard the beeping, she focused on it and it got louder. That was the first time that had happened, so she knew she was making some progress. She could also feel someone holding her hand, but other than that and the annoying beeping sound, she couldn't hear or feel anything else. She tried moving her fingers and toes first as she thought they would be the easiest and was surprised when it worked within a few minutes of trying.
Lily felt sparks and warmth in her hand going up her arm, and somehow, she knew Jackson was in the room. He must have been the one holding her hand. She heard shuffling when her fingers moved and attempted to open her eyes. When she did, everything was too bright. Lily quickly closed them and repeated the process until she was used to the lights. She looked around to see Jackson sitting to her left, a tight grip on her hand. He didn't say anything, but he never let go. For a moment, she was perfectly okay with that because she didn't want to let him go either. But then, she removed her hand from his, feeling confused.
Lily looked around at her surroundings to discover she was in a hospital room, which explained the annoying beeping sound. Why am I here? She thought to herself. She thought back trying to remember. The wolf-beast, Carter, abuse, all that blood, the stranger, rape. When she recalled it all, she just wanted to forget, to never remember it again. Lily didn't dare to examine herself; she was terrified to. She knew her right arm was in a sling because it had been broken and she could feel the wrapping on her shoulder, leg, and back but other than that, she wasn't ready.
Jackson watched her closely as she took several minutes to gather herself. He felt so guilty that he had let all of this happen to her. His mate didn't deserve it, not one bit. He watched as she lifted her left arm and motioned in the air. For a moment he was confused as to what he was trying to tell her, but he understood what she wanted after another.
Jackson grabbed a pad of paper and a pen then put it on the table hovering over Lily. She tried her best to sit up so she could write and see what she was doing better, but she was left with one arm and was very weak. She could barely form her hand into a fist to push herself up. Lily looked towards Jackson for help. He sighed and not even five seconds later Lily felt the sparks from Jackson lifting her up and sitting her up right. When he was finished, he moved his chair closer to the bed and returned is hand to hers. She gladly let him; it was a source of comfort for her.
First things first, Lily thought to herself. 'How long have I been out,' she wrote then waited patiently for him to answer her. It took him a minute or so to read what she had written; her hand writing being extremely messy.
Once he deciphered it, he told her "two weeks."
Lily looked back at him in shock, giving him a "you're kidding" look. However, she saw no signs that he had been joking with her on his face. So, she started to write again, 'what have I missed?' Lily was purposefully avoiding the one question she was too scared of knowing the answer to.
Jackson rolled his eyes at her question. He didn't understand why she was avoiding the topic. Why wouldn't the first thing she wanted to know be hers and her daughters health. He sighed before he said, "Dylan visits all the time, but other than that he's been keeping to himself; always holed up in his room. He blames himself for not being there to protect you. We both do, but it seems to be affecting him differently. Anyway, he'll probably be here in a couple of hours." He started saying, "we've all been really worried about you. And Adrienne, she..." Jackson trailed off, stopping himself from telling Lily anything more.
