"I'm not surprised that you're crap at baking," Ice said blandly, watching as his boyfriend struggle to put out the fire he'd caused in the oven. Blaze opened the oven's cover, and flames from inside licked at his skin, forcing his hand to recede.

"It took too long, so I had to use my powers!" Blaze huffed, his face red from embarrassment. "Haven't you heard of the saying: 'Why cook cookies at a hundred degrees for ten minutes when you can cook them at a thousand degrees for one minute?'"

Ice's eyes narrowed, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation. Unfazed, he coated his hand in a layer of frost. He walked over to the scorching oven and gently laid his finger on the metal handlebar, which spread ice across the oven instantly like a blanket.

He brushed his hands together, as he'd cleaned up Blaze's mess again. "Baking's more of Cy's thing. Just ask him for whatever you're trying to do."

Blaze crossed his hands on his hip, his upper body leaning towards Ice in accusatory glare. "Well," he scorned, his eye twitching as his grin was stretched forcibly, "I'm sorry for trying to make our anniversary special."

Ice raised an eyebrow. "Anniversary?"

"YOU FORGOT?"

"Yeah... I did. It's not that important, you know? It's not like we're going to break up anytime soon."

"I—what do you mean it's not special? You're the best thing that happened to me in my life!"

A small smile reached up to Ice's lips as well as his eyes, and he ruffled the head of his hot-headed partner, messing up his hair.

"Yeah. You too."

Ice stared at the lumpy cake across the table, the candle lit, but the chair across him was empty.

"This time," he muttered, "I didn't forget."
