You are not welcome in the forest. You must leave immediately, said the voice, clear and sound as streams, yet dark and deep as the ocean unknown. It spoke in her mind, like an invisible hand stretching into the front of her brain.

She closed her eyes, and focused to voice her reply. I have come in his place. She has fallen in the mortal realms. Speak not of this inicident to another.

You speak of nothing but foul lies, it hissed. For a goddess can not be perished by another, let alone in the land of putrid humans.

You do not believe me. Denial, perhaps. Ignorance will do you nothing but deeper pain. Shall you trust my word, I will gift her lands my protection for as long as I stand.

The forest rustled; the vines and roots that portruded the ground slithered away. Even, luminous grass became of her path, guiding her to the core of the forest itself.

The voice said no more.

She walked barefoot, her white chiton billowing below her knee. Crickets chirped and critters scurried about, but none stood in her path. A soft breeze bristled through her silky caramel hair, carrying the scent of spring and fruit.

Well, sister, she thought, reaching the end of the path. There stood a throne weaved of branches and lustrous leaves; the seat cleverly crafted of bark.

I've come in your place. Rest, sister, for I will watch over the forest. You have done well, and for that, sleep. Close your eyes and sleep for eternity.

Cyclone whirled around, and the path was now closed. Hundreds of animals swarmed her from the trees, some bigger than her, some smaller than her palm. They crowded her, but they didn't intrude her space. One by one, the knelt. Birds bowed their heads, horses bent their hooves. They were all acknowledging their new goddess.

She smiled faintly, for the aura of her sister had yet to fade. Quake was still here, and she will forever be with her. She will stand in her sister's place, and she will not let it fall.
