Mark

“I have to speak to my kids! Please they are in danger!” The boys had done what they thought was right. I could never be mad at them for that. However, jail is not the place for their mother and me. I can explain everything. I don’t know what evidence they have against me, but whatever it is, I know the truth. The problem was that the truth could hurt people in this situation. People that I care about! I need to talk to my sons. Once they understand what has been going on, I can explain everything. But being in this cell is preventing anything from moving forward. “Officer, excuse me... HEY... would someone answer me please! I need to speak to my children!”

A female officer approached my cell bars. “Mr. Lynch, do you know how hard it was for your son to see you get arrested? I don’t believe they need to be put through anything else from you. You can provide them with answers during your trial later this afternoon.” Trial! This trial is going to cause more damage than good. I can see it now. “Look Officer...” “Hudson” “Officer Hudson, yes I understand the pain that I have caused my children. But I promise you it was not without good reason. I never want to see my children look at me the way my youngest son did ever again. It was pure agony knowing that I had made him feel that way. But this trial is not the time for me to tell them what is going on. I have an explanation to give them but doing it at the trial could cause further damage. Please believe me, I wish them no harm.”

Officer Hudson rolled her eyes and backed away from the bars. “Mr. Lynch, I can tell you care about your boys. But what I don’t understand is how you can stand here begging me to let you have communication with them when your only daughter has been missing for four months. And what’s worse is that you know why. You disgust me Mr. Lynch. That trial is happening as planned. Your sons will be there. They will be there in front of a crowded court room and hear what you have to say and if you don’t like it, well tough luck!” With that, Mrs. Attitude stormed away. Perfect! Looks like I was going to have to do this the old fashioned way. If I can’t talk to them alone, I will make them hear me. I had taught all of my children little hints and clues that we could use for their stage performances. Kind of like in a baseball game these things that they could do on stage to get me to understand were simple head nods or movements, sometimes shout outs that were directed at me. These things helped me identify what they were thinking. It was my turn to use these little hidden messages.

Trial Time

The court room was full of loud rambunctious people. The room was filled with paparazzi, teenage girls, news reporters and so much more. R5 is a popular band. The news about Rydel’s disappearance had not gone well with the fans and the boys had been dealing with constant fan reminders and questions wondering what would happen to R5 should Rydel not be found. Though these were honest concerns, Rydel is their sister, and these were not thoughts that the boys wanted to have. As the trial proceedings began I spotted the boys sitting in the front row on the opposite side of the room. Riker was sitting beside the lawyer and the lead officer of Rydel’s case. The judge was sworn in and he silenced the room. He quickly went over some basic court rules for the young people, and then went right into the questions.

“Alright, we are here in regards to the case of Miss Rydel Mary Lynch who disappeared on January 1st 2014 following a devastating car crash which also resulted in placing a Mr. Ellington Ratliff in hospital care for 3 days time. All parties please rise. The defendant Mr. Mark Lynch, you are the father of the victim as well as the plaintiff Mr. Riker Lynch. Riker Lynch you are here in regards to recent evidence that places your father at the scene of the crime the day your sister disappeared. Are we correct so far?” Both lawyers nodded and the trial began. Riker took the stand and explained to the court everything that had happened since the accident. He talked about going over files and Rocky searching New York. When he finally got around to the new evidence he looked right into my eyes as he spoke, begging me to explain. There it was. The look Ryland had given me the day the police had taken me away. God! I hate that look.

“My brother Ross and Ellington Ratliff, our best friend and sister’s recent boyfriend, had been looking over a few of my files when they noticed a picture of the passenger seat of the wreck. In this photo were two very distinct hand prints on the head rest of this seat. We had the photo faxed to my brother Rocky here in New York who presented the evidence to Officer Nichols.” Riker was stopped there and the Officer in question began going over the forensics of the hand prints basically telling the court that it was found to be a match to my prints. There it was. I had literally been placed at the scene. How did I miss hand prints? “Mr. Mark Lynch, I would like to call you to the stand.” When I realized the Officer had turned to me now, I quickly took my place beside the judge and placed my hand on the bible. As I swore into telling the truth I looked back into Riker’s eyes. He needs to believe that what I am about to tell him is one hundred percent the truth.
