Riker
I cannot believe that we had left that court room with nothing. We had planned everything out so perfectly. We had all been given tasks to help the “operation” succeed and the only one who may have actually gotten something had refused to tell us. It is true that Rocky and I did get some new information out of our Dad. The key point being that Rydel could very well still be alive as she was just last week. Something else that had stuck out for me was the car accident. He had confessed to being in the car and had explained why Ellington had not seen him. More importantly he was the reason Ellington had even gotten out of that car still breathing. Yet when Rocky had made that deal with Ryland, letting go the best lead we had, I had decided to turn my attention to something else for a while. There was really nothing else for me to focus on without driving myself crazy.
Ellington and Ross had met us on the Court House stairs about 10 minutes after Rocky had called them. Their faces said it all. What the hell was going on? As Rocky had quickly explained what had happened between us and Ryland, I had hailed the cab to take us back to the hotel. The cab arrived and we’d all entered in complete silence. No one wanted to talk about how big of a disaster that day had turned out to be. Just thinking about it made me uncomfortable. As a naturally happy person, I have hated the last four months so much. I can’t stand being unhappy and trial day was probably runner up to being the worst day ever. Second of course to the day our sister disappeared. Think about it! A failed trial, a failed intervention, a failed brothers help, and now we are basically taking ourselves out of the investigation. All I can say is UGH!
After paying for the cab and heading up to our room at the Tipton, Rocky and I had filled in the others on what we had learned from Dad. Once again I felt compelled to apologize to Ellington for the way I had treated him over the last four months and for tackling him in Nichols’ office the day we proved Dad had been in the car. He of course had moved on from that but as the oldest I should have been the one protecting them and believing him. Even Rocky was being more helpful in all of this then I was. I was clearly getting too emotional. For the last two days I have literally sat on my phone all day waiting for Ryland to text me. I’m just so nervous for him. I probably am not supposed to know this, but I have realized that we are being watched. It’s funny because back in February I had thought I had seen some guy following Rocky but when I had looked back he was magically gone. I know Ross had also mentioned feeling like he was being watched all the time, but as a member of a pretty successful pop rock band, that was too be expected.
So I guess you could say, when I had thought someone was following us originally, I had thought nothing of it. Yesterday however, I noticed we were being watched by officers. I haven’t seen my tracker yet but I know he is there. This makes me nervous for Ryland because I know we were not being monitored before. That means that whatever Ryland had figured out showed signs of danger. Clearly that was why were not allowed to be involved. But if we were in enough danger to have the body guards around us, how much danger was Ryland in? The last message he had sent me was around 7am this morning. “Hey Riker, hope ur good. Letting u no that I will b doing something crazy and it may b on tv... so if you c it don’t b worried. Love u guys and I will c u soon. Real soon. –Ry”
To me, that message meant, he was doing something dangerous and that I should be concerned. Then I saw it. Ross had turned on the Radio Disney Channel where they were talking about the upcoming teen choice awards. The four of us were sitting down watching the TV talking about how R5 would have rocked those interviews with our fabulous style, awesome answers, and our funniness when Ross suddenly sat up shouting “WHAT THE!” Ellington fell off the foot stool he had been sitting on which was right beside Ross and looked up at him with a “really” face. Rocky began pointing and laughing when Ross shushed him and pointed. “Guys look, Ryland is on TV!” I quickly jumped up from my spot on the floor and ran up beside Ross. As I listened to the interviewer introducing Ryland my mouth slowly dropped open from shock.
“Hi Everyone, this is Candace standing out front of the Radio Disney Studios with the famous DJ and brother of Hollywood Records’ very own R5, Ryland Lynch. So Ryland everyone wants to know, what news do you have in regards to the band? Will they be playing at the Teen Choice Awards? Has there been any news on the disappearance of your sister and keyboard player Rydel? Are the rumours true? Will Sabrina Carpenter be joining the band for this performance?” Rocky, Ellington, Ross, and I all stood staring at the TV. Why was Ryland in LA? Also, why was Sabrina Carpenter rumoured to be joining us on stage? Where did that come from? “Well Candace, unfortunately there has been no news on my sister but myself and the band would like to thank the R5 family and everyone at Disney for their ongoing support. We miss her very much and hope to find her soon. As for the teen choice awards, I am unable to answer those questions for you at the current moment but would like to confirm that the rumour about Miss Carpenter is in fact a rumour though that would be interesting don’t you think?”
“Yes I believe many of the fans would be happy to see the two performances merge as one. Speaking of Sabrina Carpenter there she is! Why don’t we throw her in this conversation?” The Candace lady tapped the blond pop star on the shoulder to get her attention. I’m not sure if it is because I am his brother or if it was because I was staring him down on that screen, but I am positive that I noticed some serious tension in Ryland when he saw the young star. I had almost made myself believe that I had been imagining things when the interview went from light to extremely awkward!
