Riker

“Rocky, just calm down, I can’t understand a thing you are saying.” It is 5 A.M. in the morning here in California. My phone ringing had literally startled me awake and therefore I did not fully comprehend what Rocky was telling me. “Riker, I know it is early there but please would you pull yourself together and listen to me. I am in Officer Nichols' office with the reports back from the forensics lab. The news is not good man. I need you to do me a huge favour and get on the plane that has been booked for you. We need you here in New York, and as a matter of fact I think it may be best to bring Ross and Ellington with you for their own safety since they were involved in getting the evidence. I will go tell Nichols that they better just send a plane for you. Get to the LA airport and I will have them meet you there.”

I climbed out of bed looking for some clothes to put on. Now wide awake, I was extremely confused about where this was coming from. “Okay hold on just a second. I need more information here. Why are Ross and Ellington not safe? Why can’t I tell Mom and Dad where we are going? What about Ryland?”  Rocky sighed, “Listen, I know I am not giving you much to go on but please just do as I ask. I don’t know if Ryland will be okay. But we need someone to keep an eye on Mom and Dad and since he has not been involved, he is the perfect person to do it. The rest of your questions will be answered as soon as you get here. So please just get the others and get on the plane. I’ll see you soon bro!”

As I hung up the phone, all I could think about was the possibility that we were not safe here. What the hell was going on? Rocky had sounded desperate on the phone so rather than wasting time lost in thought, I ran to Ross’s room and barged in throwing clothes from his dresser at him. “Ross, wake up bud! We have a plane to catch. I am leaving in 15. Do not tell Mom and Dad anything. Just get dressed, grab a travel bag and meet me in my car.” I ran back to my room and threw a quick travel bag of my own together as I dialed Ellington’s number.

Ross had done as I had asked in record timing. He had beaten me to the car and had managed to avoid both of our parents. In about 20 minutes we had made it to Ellington’s place to pick him up. While we drove to the airport I explained to them what Rocky had told me on the phone and both looked at me with confused faces. Since I didn’t have any answers they really didn’t question anything leaving the rest of the drive in puzzled silence. At 10 A.M. we had arrived at the L.A. airport, parked the car and checked in. Our plane had been sent to a private hanger about 10 minutes past customs so after going through passports, luggage checks and such, we were escorted towards hanger 5.

Once there, an Officer Short greeted us and helped us load onto the plane. We were told that a hotel room had been booked for the three of us at Rocky’s hotel and that we would be meeting him there at 4:30 P.M. as the flight would be about 5 hours long. The officer would not give us any more information than that and so I was left thinking about everything all over again. Ross and Ellington both looked ready to go back to sleep so I told them that I would wake them up when we were about to land. There was no way I was going back to sleep now. There was too much going on and I couldn’t wait to get to New York to finally get some answers.

Our plane took off at exactly 11 A.M. putting us right on schedule for our meeting with Rocky. Once in the air I took out my phone and messaged Ryland. He needed to be kept in the loop and warned about keeping Mom and Dad out of it. Once he replied showing that he had received the message I began to feel worried for him. What if Ryland was not safe in L.A? And more importantly why wouldn’t he be? I finished sending Ryland texts letting him know that I loved him and would see him soon and then shut my phone off. I spent the rest of the flight looking over the case files like I had done every day for the last 3 months. As I stared at Rydel’s missing poster I prayed that it would soon be a thing of the past. I needed my family back! It was time to solve this mystery.

We landed just after 4 P.M, grabbed our bags, and met Officer Gage at the front of the New York airport. He had been instructed to take us straight to the hotel and then pick us back up again at 7 P.M. to meet with Officer Nichols. As the cruiser pulled up to the hotel, we thanked him for his help and made our way up to our room. We had only been in the room for about a minute when there was a knock on the door. Ellington went to open the door and as I turned my back to put some things away I suddenly heard a loud excited “Hey!” Ross and I looked up and we ran to the door for a group hug. It honestly felt like we hadn't seen Rocky in a forever.
