New Year's Angel

                The day my family saved me was an amazing day. Sure I was beat, exhausted, malnourished, dehydrated, and a little noise sensitive but I was with them. The people I had thought about every day. The people I had sung to and wrote about and cried for. They had come through for me and I will never be able to repay them. When we came out of that warehouse I could barely walk. The paramedic had said I was very lucky to have gotten out when I did. My leg was so infected that I had almost required amputation. Ellington had almost thrown up the big baby. He did make me explain why I had cut up my own leg and when he understood my reasoning all he did was hug me. That was all I had wanted from any of them, just proof that they were really there and not my imagination. Once my leg had been cleaned and wrapped, the paramedics took us to the nearest hospital. There I was hooked up to an IV and they kept me for a couple of days to make sure that I was okay physically and mentally.

                On May 11th 2014 I was released and Riker came to get me and Ellington and take us to the court house. It was the day Mom and Dad were to be cleared of all charges. The seven of us waited outside the court room wanting to congratulate them as a group. Riker, Rocky, Ross, Ryland and I all stood side by side while Sabrina and Ellington stood just a few paces behind us. When they came out and saw us, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. I of course got the first hug and my Dad balled his eyes out in apologies. My mom just kept checking me over making sure I wasn’t permanently damaged. She kind of got stuck on my leg for a second as I was walking on crutches, but she couldn’t complain because I was finally safe and happy.

                Sabrina probably had to go through the most changes. Her Dad, Uncle Gino and all of his men were arrested and sent to prison without bail for 15 years. She did have a hard time with this at first but she knew that he deserved it. She moved in with her mom and continued working with Hollywood Records. I agreed to continue helping her write songs as long as we did it together and it was outside. She loved the idea and her first album came out earlier this fall. Ryland who has literally spent every waking minute with her was super proud. He also managed to score another gig out of his relationship as he is now the travelling DJ for Sabrina and R5.

                Rocky moved back to California again and had managed to get his FOUR MONTH stay at the Tipton covered by the NYPD as thanks for not suing them based on their complete lack of help in Rydel’s case. Riker was super happy to have Rocky back and had actually convinced Rocky to move out with him. Riker had gotten so used to doing research all day and night that he really didn’t know what to do with himself. So Rocky, Ross, and Riker went full throttle into updating the R5 family on the story and sending out upcoming tour dates. Ellington and I became pretty serious by June. We had spent so much time missing each other that we couldn’t get enough of being together. The R5 family loved that Rydellington was real and were always snapping pictures of us in public.

About a week after the full story was released, my Dad received a giant box of chocolate phones from an Officer Hudson with an apology letter saying something about wishing she had kept her big mouth shut and she would always remember to allow the use of the one phone call system. For some reason Dad, Rocky, and Riker all thought this was hilarious and had to have the letter framed. Officer Nichols was given a metal and had received a gazillion letters from fans across the globe. Our family even added him to the annual July 4th party and he has since then become an awesome family friend.

Finally, I had received a ton of love and support from EVERYONE! Fans were super happy I was back both because I was safe and mainly that R5 was back to performing. In the end R5 literally sky-rocketed in fame because of all the drama which caused our new song Smile to go platinum. The song was a thank you to all of the fans for always keeping us smiling even during a kidnapping and we ended up having merchandise, a music video, and tons of national screen time just from that. Over time I had finally gotten the courage to tell my family how the whole kidnapping experience had happened. Really the only thing they didn’t know was that my fall had actually been a push.

Rocky had noticed the end tables were different in the hotel room because they had purposely put a fake end table in the room that night. Sabrina’s Dad had been in the room below mine and when he heard me enter he had climbed through the hole that had been cut out and covered with a light weight end table. He came in and had smashed my head with the glass cup the boys had seen on the floor. He had then gone back down the hole and later repaired it before the hotel staff discovered anything different. Hearing this, my parents have since decided that no one will stay in a room alone again.

Anyway, now it’s New Years Eve 2014. The New York team decided that we needed to perform on center stage in Time Square again except this time we invited Sabrina to sing with us. The seven of us put on a fantastic show and Ryland had actually been hired to DJ the party this time. At count down, we all stood on center stage with Ryan Seacrest huddled together. The countdown started and at 9 seconds Ellington had moved in front of me smiling like big dork. Then at exactly 1 second Ellington Ratliff got down on one knee and proposed. Before I had even had a chance to speak a voice from behind me shouted “I KNEW YOU WERE GONNA DO IT.” I rolled my eyes and kissed my angel as everyone around shouted HAPPY NEW YEAR!
