Riker

                As I ran out of that god forsaken room with the chairs my mind couldn’t help but think of a rat maze. I felt like the rat running around on a table looking for the cheese prize at the end. I had no idea where I was going. I did however have a few more advantages then the rat. For one thing we had multiple rats looking for the prize. The more people the faster the end would come... at least I was hoping that would be the case. For another thing, I knew what I was looking for. The cheese was Rydel and I had already seen her. A normal maze rat has no idea in what area of the maze the prize is in. Rydel was smack in the middle of mine. All I had to do was get to the middle and that was hopefully going to be easier now that I had nothing to lose. I guess you could say that being captured had changed our approach in the rescue plans. We were no longer worried about being quiet.

In all actuality this was probably the better plan anyway. I had never noticed before but these hall ways are super echo-y. Walking down this hallway, I could hear Ellington and Ross running down there halls smashing against walls and bumping into things. Sabrina and Ry were just talking up a storm down there hallway and Rocky was probably so focused on running he wasn’t even breathing so I really couldn’t hear him but listening to the others was helping me to determine which way to go. Gosh were they that loud last night? I had just turned down a tiny dark hallway away from the loud running feet of my brothers when I her. It was the softest and yet most powerful sound I had ever heard. She was singing to herself but what she was singing was full of so much feeling. It took me a second to realize what she was singing but when I finally figured it out my breath was taken away from me. She was singing our song!

I slowed my pace down so that I could hear her song. As I listened to her beautiful voice I couldn’t help but tear up. There was so much love and sadness in her voice it was heartbreaking. I finally couldn’t stand it anymore and I needed to sing with her. “Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm; figures dancing gracefully across my memory. Far away, long ago, glowing dim as an ember, things my heart used to know, things it yearns to remember. And a song, someone sings, once Upon a December.” I finished the song staring right at her with our hands pressed up against the glass wall. I had found her! “Riker” Hearing her call my name was the greatest thing. For a few minutes she couldn’t do anything but cry and say my name over and over.

Now that I was right in front of her I could see the severity of her captivity. Her face was covered in cuts and there were some minor bruises all over her arms. She was thin and looked exhausted. Her eyes were red from crying and her hair was matted like a dirty mop. “Rydel, you’re alive! I was so worried we had lost you forever. I am so sorry it has taken us this long to find you. We never gave up! We searched everyday for you! We were doing everything we could! I swear if we could have known where you were we...” Rydel shook her head at me and interrupted my sobbing confession. Still crying she took over the sobbing love fest “Riker stop. You can’t do that to yourself. I am alive, you have found me. You obviously did something right! Is everyone else okay? Ellington is he okay?”Oh right! She had no idea what had happened to Dad and Ratliff. Before I could even say anything from the other side of her boxed in glass room his smiling teary eyed face answered her question. “I’d say I am about as alive as you are beautiful!”

Rydel whipped her head around limping towards the other wall. Why was she limping? “You’re alive!  I was so scared you were dead. That car crash... it was the last thing I could remember and...” “Shh, I’m right here. It’s okay Rydel. I am perfectly okay. Well I am now that I know you are alive. Not being able to explain how you had magically disappeared right under my nose has been the hardest thing to live with.” Ellington quickly looked up at me giving me an “okay” look. It was basically his way of that she never needed to know what had gone down between us. How had I ever blamed this guy for anything? He is literally one of the best people I know. Suddenly from behind me came a loud thud, a scream, and a bunch of ouches. I turned around to see Ross and Rocky on the floor in front of Ryland who was blocking Sabrina who had obviously been the screamer, “Seriously guys?” Ross stood up rubbing his shoulder. “Rocky just ran right into me.” Rocky stood up pointing at Ryland. “Well Sabrina screamed and I thought you were a bad guy.” Ryland suddenly started laughing. “Rocky she screamed because you suddenly started speaking right behind us.” Wow, my brothers the 3 stooges. “Hey when you guys are done over there do you think you could come help us get Rydel out of here?” They all looked in my direction screaming the same thing. “RYDEL!”
