Colby's POV

It was so odd, yet also extremely comforting to have Sam back after 5 years of not seeing him. It was like this empty space in my heart was finally filled, like I could finally relax and enjoy things a little. I smiled as I lead him down the stairs and through the halls, though he seemed to already know where he was going. I couldn't imagine that he used to work for them, that he helped them get started, was one of the originals, but it also made me feel better about letting him into the field. We walked back toward the main hall where we had come from, and headed down a darker side hall that most people wouldn't notice if they weren't looking for it. We walked all the way down to the end and we could already hear the soft laughter from the door at the end of the hall. Sam smiled brightly and he seemed to start to walk a little faster, which made me chuckle as we walked up to the door and it was instantly swung open.

"Sam!" Trent cried happily as he hugged him tightly and Sam hugged him back as he sighed

"God it's been way to long." Sam said as he smiled and Trent nodded in agreement as he pulled away.

"It really has. Come on in, we clearly have a lot to talk about." He said as he smiled and patted Sams shoulder before letting us in. It was their personal office, where they talked about everything that they didn't want anyone else to know about. Trent plopped down on a beanbag as he smiled "so you finally did something about that crush of yours then?" Sam blushed and kicked the beanbag playfully

"Oh please. You act like it was easy for you to ask him out" Sam said as he motioned to Lucas. Trent smiled and looked at him as he shrugged.

"Fair enough. But I had some promising motivation" he said as he leaned forward a little and I watched him hesitantly, stiffening slightly until Lucas hit him

"Oh shut up. You act like I'm not enough." He said teasingly

"I just didn't know if you liked me or not."

"The week before he had me bent over a railing begging for you, that wasn't a big enough sign for you?" He asked and Trent went red.

"I forgot about that" he mumbled and Sam laughed as he walked back over to me and leaned into me as I wrapped my arms around him.

"So you still don't have a trained secret assassin?" He asked and Trent sighed

"Colby's the closets we got, but even then it hadn't always worked. You're our best. And right now we need you more than ever."

"Oh?" He asked surprised and I sighed

"The villains have been highjacking our mass shipments and destroying the product instead of taking it with them" I said "and no one had been able to make contact, at least not with any living prisoners."

"Oh, well that's not hard" Sam said smiling as he looked up at me. "That's a good warm up to get back into the game" I sighed and ran my fingers through his hair as I looked at him. I hated the idea of him going out in the field, of him putting himself in danger even though he was so confident. He must have noticed how I was feeling before because he looked back at me and caressed my cheek "I'll be okay. I've done worse runs. And I think you'll be there with me to protect me" I looked at Trent and Lucas who nodded.

"He's not going out alone. He might be the shadow, but even the shadow needs a task force" Trent said and I looked at Sam who was laughing

"Where did the name Shadow even come from?"

"It was Trents idea" sam said as he smiled. But I can't really explain how it came about. Though you'll get to see it today so you'll understand why." I sighed and nodded

"I still don't like this." I mumbled softly. Sam turned and gently held my face in his hands as he ran his thumb over my cheek. "Everything is gonna be just fine I promise. I've been apart of this for awhile. And you know how hard it is to dip, which is why I still have the tattoo." I looked at him confused before I realized what he meant.

"You've technically been apart of the gang this whole time" Sam nodded.

"But we've never had any real reason to call him in. So he's been acting like it never happened, at least to the rest of the world" Lucas said as he smiled.

"I'll do this one mission and if it really makes you that worried then I'll work more here, at base with the others" I sighed but nodded, knowing it was the only compromise I was gonna get.

"Fine, but if I say no more, you promise no more?"

"Yes I promise" He said as he kissed me softly and I sighed as I smiled softly.

"Good" Trent was sitting in Lucas's lap and he was watching us. "Though I think you'll be surprised by what Sam over here can do when his head is in the game." Lucas laughed a little and looked at Trent.

"That's right I forgot you've become a Shadow groupie ever since he saved your life" He said and Trent blushed.

"Well if you hadn't left me alone it wouldn't have been a problem." Trent shot back and I looked at them confused.

"Sam saved your life?"

"Yep, a Villain got a hold of me after school one day, threw me in the back of a van and drove me out to a warehouse. Next thing I know, I'm tied up and about to be tortured for information. And out of nowhere Sam appears behind them, and single highhandedly knocked them out" I looked at him shocked. There was no way Sam could do all of that. He was so skinny and small and innocent and...

"Well that's because that's what you had me trained to be able to do. I was trained to be recall." Sam said and Trent nodded before looking at the time. Then he stood up and walked over to them, placing his hands on their shoulders as he smiled.

"Gear up boys, we leave in 10"
