Summer 2000
The sky had opened, and the rain was coming down drenching the two girls who sat across from each other in the woods. With hands held and the rain hiding the tears running down their faces, they said goodbye. Emma and her family where moving in the morning; moving to Salem, because of her father's new job. For the two girls it seemed like so far away from New York, it was a place that Emma had not wanted to go to. She was being forced to leave her best friend, Taylor. They promised that they would keep in touch; that they would write each other every day.
As they walked back to their houses they walked in silence with heads down. They had decided that this would be this was not goodbye forever that they would see each other in the summer. That when Emma and her family left in the morning Taylor would not be there to say goodbye again, it would be too hard.
When they got to their houses, they hugged each other fiercely, starting to cry all over again. It had stopped raining and they just stood there embraced in each other's arms.
"I promise that I'll come back in the summer. Mom already said that we would come back to visit." Emma said as she pulled away.
"I'll miss you so much Emma school won't be the same without you. This will be the first year we won't be in the same class. Tomorrow after you pull away I'll start my first letter, I promise." Taylor said wiping the tears from her face.
"Goodbye." They both said at once then turned and walked into their houses.
