Dragon Ball Super: Cooler's Wrath

CHAPTER 17: ROUND TWO

Cooler examines everyone very closely, seeing Frieza beside Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and Broly. The five stand on the ground below ready to fight and their eyes filled with ferocity. The Armored Squadron behind him, waiting for the signal to storm in. He smirks seeing his brother standing next to the enemy.

"I find it funny little brother, you decide to ally yourself with the enemy" Cooler says, "But then again there's no one else on your side who can stand against me."

Frieza is agitated and prepares to charge in blindly, but Goku stands in front of him and stares at Cooler.

"What are you trying to prove Cooler?" he asks.

Cooler is surprised to hear that question. No one has ever asked him let alone an opponent even. He thinks for a moment, trying to configure a simple statement to an answer he already knows.

"I want to prove my worth. That I'm more capable than my arrogant brother" he states, "For so long, everyone praised the self-proclaimed Emperor of the Universe as he tarnished our clans name. I want to undo all of that and bring this universe to it's knees better than what Frieza could ever do."

Frieza is not happy to hear those words, pissing him off even more. Cooler notices this and rolls with it adding more to his statement.

"Your childish acts Frieza and believing yourself to be a prodigy became your downfall. You should've stayed in the afterlife where you belong. I promise you won't go back alone this time."

Before Frieza can charge in, Cooler fires a ki blast towards them on the ground as a diversion as he signals the Armored Squadron to attack.

"Here they come!" Vegeta shouts.

The five get into defense as the Armored Squadron zoom right in to fight. Salza takes on Gohan, Dore and Broly clash, Frieza tries to go for Cooler, but Neiz intervenes. Goku charges at Cooler and the two exchange fists while Vegeta and Tarble stand face to face. The two brothers lock into battle as Tarble gets into stance. Vegeta stands still and stares at him, the man he hasn't seen in decades.

"Why did you side with him? Don't you have any saiyan pride?" Vegeta asks.

Tarble is pissed off.

"What saiyan pride? Being abandoned by my own family, my own race, only to fend for myself! Where's the pride in that? I'll never care for such a warrior race!" Tarble shouts.

He charges straight at Vegeta and the two clash. Evenly matched, Tarble lashes out while Vegeta tries to learn Tarble's fighting pattern, but Tarble is in a whole league of his own using moves he didn't use the last time they fought. Tarble elbows Vegeta in the face before kicking him the back, sending Vegeta down to one knee. Tarble stands nearby waiting for Vegeta to stand.

"Get up."

Meanwhile, Dore taunts Broly as the brute saiyan has him on the run. He manages to get a few punches in, but none of them phase Broly as he thrashes about at him. Dore puts up his shield just in time as Broly slams both of his arm down onto him and Dore feels his feet sink into the concrete.

"Damn, never knew there could be a saiyan so strong" he exclaims.

Dore manages to push him away and gets a distance to breathe and Broly, in base form, walks over to him. He uses his scouter to see Broly's power level and it's going haywire to the point it breaks on him.

"Oh you're holding something back. That's not all the power you have."

Broly knows he's holding himself back out of fear what may happen if he doesn't and Dore sees this as his advantage. He charges at Broly and disappears. Broly looks around where he might be and Dore reappears, striking at him before disappearing again. He does so a few more times and Broly tries to figure out the pattern, but Dore doesn't appear again as he would've expected. Suddenly, Dore grips him in the back of his head, pulling him back and does a does a takedown from behind. Dore stands and Broly is stunned.

"Come on, I want to see what else you got" Dore says.

Broly gets up and wipes the dust off of himself. Dore smiles anticipating to bring out that immense power.

"Yeah."

Meanwhile, Gohan and Salza go at it. He's trying to read Salza's moves before noticing Frieza is having a hard time with Neiz and his electrifying speed. Neiz has Frieza on the ropes sending several electrical shocks towards him and it's pissing Frieza off. He tries firing several death beams at him, but Neiz is too fast. Before Neiz can land a fatal blow, Gohan intervenes just in time and stands in front of Frieza who is surprised by the sudden action.

"My my. Doesn't this bring back memories to the tournament" he says.

"Like before, for now you and I are allies" Gohan responds, "I don't care about our past aggressions cause at this moment we have a common goal."

Frieza has nothing snarky to say to that as Salza appears next to Neiz. The two are ready to fight once again giving each other eye contact. They waste no time charging straight at Gohan and Frieza who prepare themselves to counter.

"Very well" Frieza says.

Writer's Fun Fact:

Well the fight begins once again. For the moment these next few chapters will focus on the five against five fight, but we will see more of the others soon. Let's just say as this is going on the others are fighting off the swarm of soldiers so it's pretty much a battle all around and no one just sitting watching the fight go on. One aspect I really liked during the Tournament of Power was the dynamic of Gohan and Frieza working together. The fact Gohan is willing to work with him on multiple occasions was pretty cool so I wanted to bring that back in some capacity. Dore is obviously no match for Broly, but he's using Broly's fear of losing control like in DBS: Broly to his advantage unlike before. Tarble's words about the saiyan race and his point of view shooting down Vegeta was something when I wrote the story layout. I was like this has to go in because Vegeta is full of saiyan pride, but to hear his brother express what that pride entailed for him really questions Vegeta's faith.
