(Chapter 20)
"Everglow"Sunday, March 15
10:00amJillian woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing.
Darren: Good morning, Sirius. I'll see you later tonight. I love you.
Jillian's cheeks flushed.
"Jillian, are you up?!" Shae yelled from outside her bedroom door.
"Ugh, yes, why are you yelling?" Jillian sat up.
"Sorry!" Shae came in and sat on the bed next to her.
"I had trouble falling asleep last night, so I slept in a while."
"Yeah, what happened last night?"
"I know I probably acted crazy, but I know what I saw. There was a man at that dance wearing a skull mask."
"How could no one else notice him?"
"Everyone was wearing masks. And the man had a tuxedo on, he could've slipped the mask on and off without anyone really noticing for long."
"But, why even wear the skull mask?"
"To freak me out! Either someone's just messing with me, or someone else was in on this whole Admirer thing."
"But, it was all Cameron. He confessed to everything."
"I know. I know it was all him. And that's why I freaked out at first. But my sister called the police station last night and they confirmed that Cameron is locked up."
"Well, that's... good, right?"
"Yeah."
"Maybe it really was just someone messing with you. I mean, people obviously talk, and almost the whole school knows what was going on since Cameron got arrested. Did Cameron have any siblings or anything?"
"He has a younger brother. But, his family moved out of that house shortly after everything went down."
"How old is his younger brother?"
"Uh... three, I think."
"Oh, a baby brother."
"Yeah. It makes sense that they wouldn't want to keep living near me."
"Do you still have security cameras in place?"
"Yeah, of course. But only on the inside of the house and the front porch."
"I mean... you should feel pretty safe. I really don't think anyone else is out to get you. Cameron is gone and your life has been pretty great the last couple weeks."
"That's what Jesse said."
"Well, your sister is smart."
"I have a date with Darren tonight," Jillian changed the subject.
"Oh, yeah! Where's he taking you?"
"This really nice restaurant."
"That's so cute."
"It was part of his prom weekend plan."
"That boy spoils you."
Jillian laughed.
"I really love him.""We got to get you dressed then."
~Later that evening, Darren led Jillian to a lovely outdoor restaurant.
The twinkling lights overhead lit the patio.
It was directly in view of the cityscape.
