"Starlight"

Tuesday, February 17
7:30am

Jillian was at her locker when she heard a voice behind her.

"Hey, Jill."

Jillian spun around to face Darren.

"Hey, Darren," she broke into a smile.

"You doing okay?"

"Yeah, why?"

Darren awkwardly shifted.
"It's just, you've been kind of keeping your distance since our date."

Jillian hadn't even given it much thought.
"I have?"

"Yeah, you have."

Jillian sighed.
"I'm sorry, I've just had so much on my mind; things aren't going too well right now."

There was genuine concern in his eyes.
"What's going on?"

"Nothing worth talking about," she assured.

"So, um, would you like to maybe... go out again?"

"Yeah, of course," she smiled.

A look of relief washed over him.
"Really? Okay, cool. So, I'll see you in bio?"

"Yeah. I'm sorry Mr. Burke separated us."

"Yeah, me too. But, you and Travis seem to work pretty well together."

"Yeah, honestly he's helped me a lot."

Darren looked uncomfortable.
"That's great. He, um, seems to like you."

"I'm... not really into him."

He fought a smile.
"Oh... good."

"So, let's get together this weekend," she suggested.

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Okay, cool. So, I'll see you in bio."

He kissed her cheek.

Jillian's face flushed.
"Yeah, see you."

As Darren walked away, Cameron came up to Jillian.

"Hey, Jill."

"Cameron! Hey, how are you?"

Cameron shyly lowered his gaze.
"I'm alright."

"Hey, have you thought about the dance coming up?" He asked.

"Oh. No, I haven't. Things have just been kind of hectic lately."

"Oh, okay. I get it. Well, either way, we should hang out. I feel like it's been forever since we've spent time together."

"Yeah, sure. You know where to find me."

Cameron laughed.
"Yeah, I do. So, um, I saw you talking with Darren."

"Yeah... I'm hoping he's more than a friend."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, I like him a lot."

"Oh, that's... good, I guess."

"I knew you'd be happy for me. You've always been there for me."

"Alright, well we should get to class now."

"Yeah. I'll see you, Cameron."
