It all starts with detention

"Are you girls going to be late to my class again?" Mr. Douglas asks raising his eyebrows.

"No sir" we say in unison.

"Next time it's 20 minutes after school, understand?" He asks looking as stern as ever.

"Yes sir" we say again.

"now don't forget your 'note' next time, because we all know there will be a next time. Now please leave, I'll see you girls tomorrow" he says and we leave the classroom and head for the doors. I forgot my phone.

"Oh, I forgot my phone, do you guys want to go to my house and wait for me or you want to wait here?" I ask waking back to the classroom.

"We will wait here babe, don't take too long aye" Taliah says. I roll my eyes and start to run. Hopefully I catch mr. Douglas before he leaves.

Luckily for me I do.

"Hey, sir. Sorry i forgot...my...phone." I say confused. The sight in front of me is strange and confusing.

"What are you doing?" I ask calum.

"Studying" he says.

"Right. Well I'm just gonna grab this..." I say as I walk over and pick my phone up "and leave" I add and start to leave when Calum's hand grasped mine. Immediately heat rises to my cheeks and I feel the familiar flutter in my stomach. I hate this feeling. He shouldn't be making me get feel like this.

"Wait, Ella please" his eyes look so dark and desirable. You could get so lost and yet feel so loved. But I know that I need to stay away, I didn't tell you before but... I only lost feelings for Calum last year. Yep. I'm not sure if their completely gone, but that's why I keep saying I hate him. If I say it enough it will happen and I won't like him and I'll be happy... I once thought I could be happy with him but that was before he cheated on Zoe. I didn't want someone who couldn't be loyal. I want hi- I wanted him to be a genuine lover, but I guess people don't actually change.

"What Calum, the girls are waiting for me and I don't want... To..."I cut myself off when Calum walked over to his bag and pulled out a small rectangular box.

"I really do feel sorry for the seventh grade dilemma Ella, and I was going to give this to you this morning but you walked away..." He exclaims with a small grin. "Think of it as like a piece offering" he adds with a little laugh.

"What is it?" I ask when it's placed in my hands.

"Open it" he says staring right at me, I avoid his gaze and start to unwrap the purple ribbon.

"Quick question, why did you choose this colour ribbon?" I ask, I wanted to see if he actually remembered anything from our primary school conversations.

"Because purple is your favourite colour" he replies short and simple. I'm shocked. I really am. I wasn't expecting him to remember and that's exactly what I told him.

"I didn't think you remembered" I state and hide my face.

"I remember a lot actually, like your favourite food is pizza, your favourite band is 'blink 180', and oh how you pissed your pants in the third gra-"

"No!" I cut him off. "Please don't remind me of that." I plead. "It's seriously embarrassing" I laugh and he laughs with me. I stop and listen to his sound. So vibrant and cute, things i didn't expect from such a sour guy...

"We'll open it" he smiles.

"Okay, okay" I giggle and proceed in unwrapping.

My breathe hitches in my throat and my stomach ties in knots.
A slim silver chain with a 'E' dangling in the middle rest' in the box.

"Calum...I, I don't know what to say, this must have cost a fortune" I shake my head "I can't" I gasp and hand it back to him.

"Too bad...turn around" he instructs.
I do as he says and I soon feel his warm hands touch my skin, he lifts my hair over my shoulder and places the necklace around my neck. I let out the breathe I have been holding in this whole time. When his hands are removed from my skin I turn around and see him standing there so innocent.

"Friends?" He asks and holds his hand out for me to shake.

"You think because you buy me this amazingly beautifully gift, I'm just going to forgive you?" I raise my brows.

"I-uh, no, i jus-" I laughed and he stopped talking.

"I forgive you, but next time will have to top this gift alright?" I giggle and stare at him. He's looking at me too. Shit I'm staring look away Ella...

I can't though, his gaze is holding on me and I can't shake it. His eyes a deep shade of brown, louring me In.

"Well, I uh, have to go the girls are waiting for me" I smile awkwardly after breaking the weird silence.

I need to do an act of appreciation. So I do the only thing I can seem to think off. I lean over and kiss his cheek softly. Hoping he doesn't misinterpret my actions.

"Thanks Cal." I smile small.

"It's been a while since anyone has called me that" he smiles back.

"Don't make it weird!" I laugh.

"Sorry, I was just saying!" He laughs with me.

"Well I really should get going now" I say and turn to leave "thanks again Calum" I say and head towards the school parking lot.

Once outside the girls moan in annoyance and I laugh.

"What the actual shit? Did you fuck in there or something, Jesus Ella" Brooke complains.

"Oh shut up, I couldn't open the door and mr. D wasn't there so I had to get the key from the office and then return it."' I lie. I couldn't tell them the truth. I wasn't sure if I was ready for a friendship with Calum. I mean, what if he just plays me for a fool and i forgive him too soon?

"You ready to go?" I ask.

"Yeah, we've been ready for thirty minutes now El" Taliah sighs and we all get into our cars, driving to my house.

Was i jumping into this friendship? What if I develop feelings for him again? What if I get humiliated and hurt again? What if, is all I can think about.

He has loured me in, has me in his trap. Let's just hope, I'm not stuck there and can escape if something goes bad...
