It's been over a month and I...have nothing to say for myself.

In other news, I fell asleep on the kitchen floor yesterday afternoon and since I never sleep, my family was like "aw yes finally she's getting rest" so they just like. Left me there?

Shoutout to my dad for providing a blanket I guess?

Here, I made y'all a meme.

Welcome back to civilization, InkAndAsh

This chapter thing is dedicated to someone who has defied all odds. (This sounds like it's going to be inspirational but it's not.)

Shoutout to my manager who has defied all the odds by being a middle-aged manager of a retail store with the first name Karen.

She hasn't demanded to talk to herself ONCE.

Perhaps it is truly inspirational after all.

So, where did we leave off?

Right, Melkor was causing problems.

Shocking.

While he was going about convincing people of stuff, he went to Feänor and Fingolfin and basically convinced them that the other brother was plotting against them.

Feänor, who already hated his half brother, probably didn't need much convincing.

So, as any normal person would, he invented swords and went to threaten Fingolfin.

As you do.

This whole sword-threatening incident was what tipped the Valar off to the fact that shit was going down in Valinor, despite the fact that Melkor had been going around spreading lies and shit for a decent amount of time and NOBODY NOTICED.

THEN, Manwë the Golden Child did something really, really exciting.

He, "grieved, but he watched and said no word."

He sat there and felt sad and did legit nothing.

Yes, that's a direct quote from the book.

Why even bother to tell us that?! Nobody cares that Manwë was sad! Unless he's gonna do something, we don't care about his feelies being hurted!

At least, I certainly don't.

Anyway, the Valar decided to bring Feänor to the Ring of Doom to question him, and even though throughout that whole encounter they figured out that Melkor had basically been whispering in his ear and telling him that he needed to do something before his brother came and like, murdered him...they decided that it was also partly Feänor's fault?

Which...doesn't...make...sense?

The Valar banish him for 12 years, and if you know what happens in the book, you might agree that if they hadn't forced Feänor to go to Formenos...a bunch of stuff probably wouldn't have happened...like...I feel like a good amount of this whole ordeal could have been avoided.

But maybe that's just me.

The Valar were all like, "after the 12 years are up, if your brother will forgive you, you can come back" and good ol' Fingolfin immediately was like "oh I forgive him right now :) "

...if you'll recall, Fingolfin's the one who doesn't seem to possess the ability to take a HINT.

Feänor doesn't really seem to care either way and he just stomps off without saying anything to sulk.

I can't judge because I probably would have done exactly the same thing tbh...

Feänor and his fam go sulking off to Formenos and make a crap ton of jewels and weapons and great crap like that. Included in this bunch is actually Finwë, because even though he is literally the High King of the Noldor, Feänor is his favorite child (what could go wrong) so he was willing to just like, yeet off and leave the throne to be babysat by his...less favorite kids?

While they're there, Melkor comes knocking and tries to con Feänor into becoming BFFs -- remember, Melkor is like...inappropriately obsessed with the Silmarils according to Tolkien's wording -- and it almost works.

It almost works until Feänor...and I'm honestly not at all sure how he managed to do this because Tolkien is, as ever, incredibly vague...somehow saw that all Melkor wants are his jewels which makes him really mad, so he yells "Get thee gone from my gate, thou jail-crow of Mandos!" and slams the door in the Dark Lord's face.

I repeat, he SLAMMED THE DOOR

IN THE FACE

OF A VALA MORE POWERFUL THAN MANWË.

WHILE INSUlTING HIM FOR BEING In MANDOS'S JAIL.

Bravery, stupidity, or both...?

Finwë finds this VERY ALARMING, as anyone with any intelligence probably SHOULD, so he sent messages to Manwë.

Manwë, as far as I can tell, did nothing.

Meanwhile, Melkor, who was embarrassed and angry, left Valinor to plot, sulk, and probably hang with his boyfriend Sauron.

And yeah, that's where that chapter ends.

So considering everything that just happened...nothing can possibly go wrong.

Nothing at all.
