Ian stared at the little boy in front of him, his little boy who was currently playing in the sand box with franny. Ian let out a choked out sob, the boy looked so much like his husband..

The raven hair and those gorgeous bright blue eyes, he even had attitude like Ian's husband. Fuck he probably looked crazy crying at the sight of his son. Ian sighed and told Debbie he was going for a quick walk. So he left and as more tears fell he continued to think of Mickey. He was gone now, he was dead. And oh how his son reminded him of him. Staring at the child was just a constant reminder of what he had and what he'll never see again.

Recap

When Ian and Mickey had gotten married they decided to have a child and decided going the surrogate way, Ian had convinced Mickey that it should be his sperm because in Ian's eyes he was the most handsome man and he wanted their child to look just like him. When Max was born the two men adored him, they took care of him well and Mickey was alive for his first and second birthday. Then they found out that Mickey was slowing dying of cancer, it was difficult. Really difficult. Neither were able to tell their son because for one he wouldn't understand and for two he'd be heart broken. So it was kept secret, only Ian and Mickey knew. Everyday Ian would make sure to show his husband how much he loved him, he needed to make sure that if he wasn't going to make it that he was the one Ian wanted for forever and always. That's what he did and when Mickey died a week before Max's third birthday, he left this world knowing how much Ian meant to him and how much he meant to his family. He was reminded that he lived the fullest life with his husband and son and that they would both cherish him forever and always.

Max's third birthday was difficult for the poor kid, he had no idea his dad was dying. No one did, it was a shock to all but Ian didn't want to say out loud that the love of his life was slowly dying. Even telling them why he died was the most difficult thing, and telling Max was even worse.

End of recap

It was almost a year since Mickeys death, two weeks before Max's fourth. It took multiple months for Max to recover and even more months for Ian to even go a night or day not thinking about him but it was hard, because everyday he would look at his replica. Because Max was the mini version of Mickey. So even if this was hard on Ian he made sure to take care of Max as best as he could because that's all he had left of Mickey. That was the last piece of his husband because that child had his husbands DNA.

So when Ian got back from his walk, without hesitation he went up to Max, "hey buddy, can daddy have a hug?" He asked feeling his cheeks become wet with tears. Max stopped playing in the sand box and stood up, squeezing onto his dad "of course daddy, but why you crying?" Max said when he pulled away. "It's nothing to worry about bud" he quietly said wiping his face, Max just sighed "ok daddy, I love you", "I love you too buddy, so much" Ian said smiling, looking into those bright blue eyes that he adored.
