She was the center of attention once again. Every eye followed the smallest form in the room. She stood tall, understanding the consequences for her actions, but simply denying them.

Nearly every man that stood before her she called a friend. But no one, not but one enemy ninja, understood her true self, where she came from, who raised her, who taught her war was bad.

Yet they were so quick to judge her, pushing her into a corner everytime she asked a question or showed too much emotion.

"You can't boss me around, Nobunaga," her words were spoken in pure irritation.

Hideyoshi had held back his comments for the majority of the emergency council but once the small girl rolled her greedy eyes, acting like she knew everything, that finally set Hideyoshi off.

Smoke was fuming out of his ears at the idea of his Lord taking offense to y/n's nasty outspoken words. Truly, he cared for her, loved her dearly, but he feared what his Lord might do with such an outspoken girl like y/n.

Completely ignoring the Devil Kings speech about speaking out of turn, the tall warlord fought back against the Princess and Chatelaine of Azuchi Castle.

"What Lord Nobunaga says is final, there is no 'what I want' because it simply doesn't matter what you want."

Hideyoshi didn't want to sound mean, his eyes were begging her to understand and just trust him.

"It's Nobunaga's decision-"

"It's my decision! It's my life," y/n spat in his face, threatening to close the gap between them. Holding her head high, she stood her ground, grabbing ahold of her dignity that he was trying so hard to snatch from underneath her.

"You think you know everything but you have absolutely no idea, y/n. Just stop while you're at it. Nobunaga only wants to help-"

"Help? Help?! Have you guys maybe thought that maybe war isn't my life? I completely respect that you're wholly consumed by it, but truth be told, I will never be and I never want to be.

"Y/n-"

Nobunaga doesn't speak up, nor does he intend to. In fact, Hiseyoshi's interactions with his Chatelaine surprised him and everyone else in the room to the point of disbelief, all they could do was watch the scene unfold.

"How are you supposed to know what's best for me, Hide? I don't need to live by his every command."

She forced the tears to stay at bay. Looking around the room, she noticed every last eye was on hers, staring right back into her e/c eyes, trying to find something within her words.

"Y/n, yours choosing to disobey me?"

"Okay, until you've walked a mile in my shoes, you don't know me. And I won't let you treat me like less of a human. I won't have it. The day I call you Lord is the day I loose myself to this cruel, cruel world," a shiver danced down her spine.

The whole room thought about her words carefully. Y/n was breaking herself down at a rapid pace, but yet no tears surfaced.

"I just want to protect you, that's all.." Hideyoshi seemed more broken, more disoriented than her.

The conversation was thought to have calmed down, for the look on their eyes was no longer anger, but more of a shade of need.

Nobunaga began to speak but y/n blurted out words of a heartbroken girl.

"Well, don't you worry your little head, I won't be back again, so you can stop pretending to care, now," she turned on her heel heading straight for the door.

Hideyoshi was confused. He never once lied to y/n. Everything about their relationship was true. He was never ever pretending.

Hideyoshi was sure y/n would be in a fit of tears at this point. But it wasn't her cheeks stained with salty tears.

He ran after her and grabbed her small waist pulling her body into his chest, creating a warm energy surrounding the both of them, a bubble made only out of their own emotions and sensitive feelings.

"Don't touch me," but she didn't pull away from his warm touch, nor did she show any attempts to remove herself from his embrace.

"I was never pretending, you know that," his voice was tender and caring as he turned her to face him. He showed such compassion for her.

"I-I love you okay? So.. at least let me help you understand, okay?"

There was silence. She stood there in his arms, thinking over his words. Looking up at the dias, she was surprised to find an amused look on Nobunaga's face.

She didn't want to admit she wished she knew more about the Sengoku period and their rules, but if he thought it would help her for the better, she would try.

"Okay, for you, I'll try to find answers in your knowledge... but don't ever yell at me again for standing up for myself. If you're not here for me..."

"I'm always here for you, but sometimes you word things... incorrectly."

"Oh yeah?" she giggled as she wiped his tears away.

"No."

"Good answer."

He leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to her hot forehead and before turning around to face his Lord, he promised to help with all her mistakes and fix what she left broken in all the weeks she had been there. He promised to never leave her lonely.
