Laying down on a large, soft blanket while gazing up, falling in love with the night sky, were Shingen, his cousin Yoshimoto, and Yukimura. Sasuke and his good friend Y/N were also there, covered in the same blanket, sitting awfully close together, sharing their warmth.
Several paces away was Kasugayama Castle, large and dimly lit with the light of fire. Although Kasugayama was nearly invisible in the dead of the night, tonight, up close, red was glowing off the walls, and it was beautiful.
The soft breeze brushing against their faces was cold, and it makes their noses run. Winter is just around the corner. Empty are the trees, no crunchy leaves on, or below them.
Snow will be falling in just a few days and then nights like this, for the friends, would end. It only gets chiller the longer they stay out. Even though the weather is not perfect, the moon tonight is.
"What kind of moon is this again, Sasuke?" Shingen asks.
"Officially named Hunter's Moon, but more commonly known as the Blood Moon," Sasuke says without hesitation.
"You're very intelligent, my friend," Yoshimoto smiles handsomely, not really caring where he found this information at.
Y/n's puppy like eyes are wide as she stares up, studying the details of the moon that brightens the night sky. She remembers seeing the Blood Moon back in the modern time. But now, with a much clearer sky, this was by far her favorite memory of the moon.
"How cool would it be if the sky was red during the day?" Yuki asks, also staring up in awe.
"I don't know. If the sky was red, it would make our world a lot darker, and scarier" Y/n whispers the last part.
"I have to agree with y/n on that one. Sorry Yuki. But hey, the Blood Moon will occur every two years. We will have to do this again. Hopefully we will be able to see it. In some instances, the moon won't appear crimson to certain parts of the hemisphere."
Sasuke's face was blank, as per usual, but on the inside he was smiling at the quality time him and his friends were getting together.
Several minutes passed and the only audible sound was the light swooshes of wind.
"Wow, it's so beautiful though. I'll never forget this guy's," Y/n smiles brightly up at the light bulb in the sky. "The moon is the prettiest asteroid I've ever seen."
"Asteroid? What's an asteroid?" Shingen and Yoshimoto ask at the exact same time.
"It's not an asstrode! It's a planet dummy," Yukimura rolls his eyes at her, trying to impress his friends, meanwhile, incorrectly pronouncing asteroid.
"No. It isn't!"
"Um. It is too, you wild boar!"
"I agree with Lady y/n. It's not a planet," Yoshimoto stands up for the girl.
Sasuke clears his throat, interrupting their pointless arguing. "Actually, the moon is neither asteroid nor planet. It's actually referred to by NASA as a natural satellite. And so are all the other planet's moons."
"Nasa?" Yukimura repeats. "Who is Nasa and how did you contact him?"
The group stops to ponder this question before someone speaks up with a better question.
"How do you know all these things, Sasuke?" Shingen looks puzzled as he ponders on how he might have received all this entertaining information.
Y/n and Sasuke both turn their heads and stare at each other. Y/n only blinks at him, shrugging her shoulders at her modern day friend.
"Good question, Shingen."
"Huh?" Shingen turns his head now, waiting for him to respond but a whole minute of silence passes.
Y/n smirks at her good friend. Before sitting up slightly on her side, gesturing towards the sick warlord. "Well, aren't you going to tell him?"
"No, Y/n. You know I can't do that," Sasuke sends his friend a half glare. "I'll tell him when he's older."
Staring at the two friends as they snicker, Shingen sits up completely. Knowing something no one else in this group knows, the two friends feel a slight amount of power and pride.
"When I'm older, I'll probably be dead, I won't be here for long you know-"
"Hey, we don't have to discuss this now, my Lord, please. We're just trying to enjoy ourselves," Yukimura begs.
Suddenly it was silent again. The friends lay back down into the blanket, focusing on the natural satellite once more, but not forgetting the previous conversation that might forever be a mystery to them.
Then there is the sudden sound of the dead grass crunching. Sasuke was the first to notice, turning his head to the direction of the disturbance. Someone was walking towards them slowly.
Before they make it to the large blanket sprung out on the pokey grass, the rest of the group also became aware of the sound. Everyone except the princess, who is lost in the thoughts in her head.
"What are you all doing out here laying on the cold ground? It's freezing, you fools. You're all going to catch a cold," a very deep voice speaks out into the darkness.
"Kenshin?" Yoshimoto asks.
"Are you kidding me?" Yukimura rolls his eyes at Kenshin. "We're watching the moon, look."
Yukimura, from the ground, points up in the direction of the bright red moon. Kenshin looks up, eyes going wide seeing how large the moon is. But he quickly looks down, forgetting about how beautiful it is
Studying the moon, it seems bigger than y/n has ever remembers the moon looking before. From her angle, it looks bigger than the Eiffel tower. She wanted to stay outside and stare at it until she falls asleep, but the sniffle in her red nose makes her second guess that thought.
"Why are you watching the moon? It's not like its going anywhere," Kenshin's breath can be seen by everyone on the ground. As he exhales the smoky like air, he breathes out, and it floats away.
No one expects him to join them in moon gazing, but it disappointed Sasuke, that Kenshin chooses not to enjoy the small things in life. Especially when this small thing won't appear for another two years.
"Oh whatever, Kenshin. You know dang well, we watch the moon togethe-" the girl starts but is interrupted by Kenshin's loud voice
"Y/n, do not finish that sentence."
Everyone eyeballs the only standing person in the group. Kenshin has only been talking with them for thirty seconds and is already done with the conversation. He quickly tries to escape the conversation.
"Y/n, baby. You're going to catch a cold out here, come with me."
He pulls the thick blanket covering her body and gently grabs ahold of her tiny hands and fully picks her up off the blanket and holds her like a small child. Caressing the back of her head, he guided her cold face into his chest, shielding it from the icy breeze.
"Let's go, you're probably chilled to the bone, let's get you some warm tea," he wraps his arms around her and she holds onto him tightly, enjoying his warmth. He always treats her like a queen.
"I can't believe you would just take my best friend away from me like that," Sasuke says dramatically.
"You get her all the time. This is supposed to be our night with y/n," Yoshimoto frowns deeply.
The group all sits up, forgetting all about the blood moon high up in the sky. Now, the bigger issue was stopping Kenshin from taking their best friend, their most favorite person to be around.
"Hey! Aren't you going to help me up, Kenshin? No fair! She gets all your attention," Shingen yells back at the God of War carrying his girlfriend like she is a toddler.
"Yeah, come cuddle us," Sasuke laughs, sitting up and watching him continue walking away.
"Shut up or I'll kill all of you," the tall warlord says, glaring back at them, walking away with his girl in his arms.
