Anger

"Nice of you to join us Miss Maddex." Mr. Harrington announced as I slowly made my way into the room. Peter shot me a questioning glance as I slid in next to him, all the classes attention suddenly trailed on my tardy ass.

"Any way, today we will be discussing chemical grouping patterns. This will be a group project with your table partners. You each should already have your instructions, so go on ahead. And Peter, Rachel." He looked over at the two of us, his smile a bit worried. "Please don't… how should I put this… go outside of curriculum this time okay?"

We both nodded vigorously as I attempted to contain my laughter. Last week we had been experimenting with creating electricity with unusual objects and we had decided it would be fun to connect wires from a potatoes current and a normal battery. Let's just say the results were explosive.

Anyway, this project we could do in our sleep so he automatically decided he wanted to question me on my whereabouts.

"So, why were you late Rae?" He muttered, pretending to be looking for the right sized erlenmire flask for our project.

"Oh, ran into someone in the hall, wanted to chat." He raised an eyebrow, obviously not convinced.

"You know I don't believe you right?" He said pulling the chlorine out of a drawer to his right. I nodded, retrieving the bottle of peroxide from a shelf across from us.

"Well, its half true. Does that count?" I murmered, turning the bottle upside down and balancing it on its flat top.

"Nope." He grabbed the largest flask and dropped a few bits of chlorine in there as well as purple food coloring and swirled it around for no reason.

"Just checking." I sighed, spinning the peroxide on its top until it fell over with a soft thud. "I had a run in with flash." I whispered. Immediately I saw Peter set down the flask he had been carelessly whisking around. "It's not that big of a deal." I whispered, refusing to look at him. I could tell that he wasn't happy by the immediate stillness.

"What did he say to you?" He asked, words gentle but tone fierce.

"Nothing-" his hand gently held the side of my face, bringing my eyes up to meet his own. The soft and caring eyes that I hated to lie to.

"Mr. Harrington, can we please be excused?" He asked, shooting up with my body wrapped in his arm.

"Fine Peter, just because I know you two know this stuff already." He waved us out, Peter dragging me out into the hall without my own accord.

"Wow your strong." I muttered as we sat in the middle of the empty hallway.

"Stop avoiding the question Rae, what did he do to you?" I bit my lip, hand immediately going up to my shirt collar and twisting it in my fingers.

"Grabbed me by the shirt… talked about how disgusting I was. Reminded me of how ugly and gross and fat I was. You know the normal stuff. Told me about how no one would ever love me. All things I already knew." He was shaking his head, his brunette hair covering his eyes. I knew they were disappointed. I would be too. I was too.

"You can't listen to him Rachel. He's a no good jealous bully who only wants you to feel small." I laughed a bit, standing up and dusting myself off.

"Well it's hard to ignore the voice of the devil himself isn't it. I know you don't ignore him either Peter. And what he says to you isn't even true. Just let it go, it's easier that way." I whispered, head turned away from him once again.

"Why do you insist on hating yourself like this?" He shouted, more of a demand than a question. I had never heard him tell before, it was a bit jarring, but I could feel the anger rising inside myself too.

"Why do you think that you can fix everything? It the world filled with real life fricking superheros can't be a perfect paradise, why do you insist on setting yourself to the standard of having to be humanity's savior!" I belted out, hands rising to the sides of my head as the pull of the metal lockers around me grew heavier. Suddenly one of them flew open as I threw down my hands, shoving down the stupid unjustified anger and trying to put myself under control.

"I've got to go Peter." I whispered, my skin tingling with all of the useful materials around me that my body begged to toss through the damn school.

"Rachel I-" the bell rang over his voice as I rushed inside the class and grabbed my stuff, not bothering to stay behind and hear or give an apology.

"I'll see you tomorrow Parker." I muttered, flowing into the hallway and disappearing into the crowd. Peter Parker left alone wondering what he did wrong.
