My body jerked as I ran through the hall, Iron Man protecting me from the onslaught of bullets. I held her close to my chest, the slow rise and fall of her own the only thing I cared about. "Hold on Rae, just hold on." The words spilled out of my lips, one after another until we reached the surface, we both rushed as quickly as possible to the evacuation point just up ahead. Time moved in slow motion as I placed her down on the bed infront of me, her cold skin grey, face pale and eyes dark. She didn't move but for the nearly unrecognizable rise of her chest. She was still alive.

"Go, get out of here now!" I could hear Tony screaming at the pilot as he continued to shoot out the open doors at oncoming soliders.

My body lurched as we lifted off the ground, soaring into the sky and away from the scene below. Tony slammed shut the doors, stepping out of his suit that held quite a few new dents and damages, and coming over to my side. I hadn't even noticed the two doctors we had brought trying to coax me from her side until he laid a hand on my shoulder.

"They'll do all they can." He said, voice more gentle than I thought possible. I nodded, releasing my light grip from her forearm and taking a few steps back.

All I could do was stand there and watch. This woman I did not know and knew so well could not die right here. Not now, there was so much left for us to do.

The tears fell freely from my cheeks with no motivation for me to reach up and wipe them away. I was empty and hollow, looking at her. She had become so precious to me. Slowly my hand reached into my pocket, withdrawing a small pen, and I held it, right up against my chest, and did as close to a prayer as I have ever come.

She has come so far, don't do this. Not now. Please, who ever is out there listening... let her live.

"Pete." I watched as her eyes held slightly open, the doctors encouraging her to lay still as the put a tube down her chest to help her breath. That was all she could get out before.

I walked over looking down, my mask down to the side, the rest of me covered in the suit, recognized immediately as I could tell. Her eyes were dazed and heavy. The doctors had given her anastezia, not to mention the hell she had been through. Her body jolted for a moment before they closed all the way, a small cry letting itself from my lips as I watched.

"Shes gonna be okay, right?" I murmered, hands covering my mouth, not wanting to know the answer. Mister Stark placed a hand on my shoulder, looking down at me and my watery eyes.

"We'll do all we can."
