Charlotte led Ed and Lucius to the roof of the building across from old Haven, where the weapon had to be shot from to hit the tank at that precise angle. The two men eyed the distance and all made sense now that they knew which weapons caused so much destruction in its wake. And they could spot the tank from there.
"It had to be from this roof," Charlotte stated confidently.
Ed looked at her proudly. "Impressive. You calculated the angle of incident to follow the trajectory through the window, into the fuel oil tanks".
Meanwhile, Lucius scanned the rooftop. "That, and the RPG case is right over there".
Charlotte and Ed followed after Lucius as he pulled out his black latex gloves from his suit's pocket and started examining the case. "So, now we know how it was done. Hopefully, this holds some clues as to who," he closed the case and grabbed it before standing up. "I should get this back to the lab".
Ed looked back at the Haven's ruins with doubts in his mind.
He looked back at Lucius. "Doubtful that someone who could pull off such an intricate plot would forget to wear gloves". It seemed all too easy. The person had been smart so far, why start being sloppy now?
"True, but it's all I've got to go on," Lucius replied hopefull.
"Well, maybe I'm wrong," Ed said it, but the words seemed weird in his mouth. He was the Riddler and he hated to ever admit he could be wrong, but in this case, he kind of wanted to be. "I hope so". Lucius eyed the couple as they looked back at the ruins and then back to him. "I truly hope that you find whoever did this and you make them pay".
Charlotte nodded in agreement. "And I hope you can at least carry out the simple task that is finding out fingerprints if there are any to be found".
Lucius sighed after Charlotte ruined the moment, but he could see despite their arrogance, the two appeared honest when they said they hoped the killer was found. He had to admit to himself it wasn't hard to work with them on that matter. They were smart and quickly seem to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Now that they did as he asked them to, Lucius decided to give them the file back. "As promised. I appreciate your help. Couldn't have done it without you two". Lucius almost laughed at the surprise on their faces after he said that last bit. "And if you tell anyone I said that I will deny it". And with that, Lucius left to get back to his lab at the GCPD.
Ed looked at Charlotte and smiled. She smiled in return at her boyfriend before he looked down at the floor.
He decided to finally see the content of the file and opened it. "Inmate number 1215. Frank McCann. Frank McCann". He searched for a picture to see if the face reminded him of something. The third page had a printed mugshot of Frank, but the red letters underneath completely changed Ed's mood. "'Deceased'?"
"What?" Charlotte asked in shock.
Why had Ed written 'Inmate 1215 knows' in his hand if the man was dead? Instead of getting answers, only more questions pilled up.
