"Will you calm down, Ed?" Oswald asked, already with a headache from Edward's anxiety.
Ed had no idea how he could calm down. He couldn't even sleep at night. Not because of what happened at the clinic, but because it was time to make his dream come true. It was no longer just something he wanted more than anything. It was real. It was about to happen and Ed couldn't breathe anymore. "How am I supposed to calm down, Oswald?"
'Not throwing yourself into the Gotham river would be a start,' Oswald thought to himself with a roll of his eyes. "Start by breathing," he advised, seeing how Ed was paler than usual.
Ed tried to breathe. "I don't think I remember how".
Oswald shook his head with frustration. "God, so dramatic. You're only getting married! It's not the end of the world".
Those words didn't help to reassure the panicked Riddler. "But what if I don't make her as happy as she deserves to be? What if she regrets her decision to marry me? What if-"
"Just keep being the Riddler, she seems to enjoy that," Oswald said with annoyance evidence in his tone. He wanted Charlotte to arrive fast, so he didn't have to deal with Ed all by himself anymore. He was already tired and it was yet early in the morning.
"You really think so?" Ed asked with hope shining in his eyes.
It made Oswald wonder if he sounded this ridiculous when he was in love with Ed three years ago. Did he sound so desperate for Ed's love?
'Surely not,' he thought to himself. Oswald did kill Isabella, but he convinced himself he did it because he had to. Ed's sanity, or what was left of it, depended on it. And Charlotte played her part as well, so Isabella's death wasn't entirely his fault.
"Yes, don't worry," Oswald ended up saying to reassure his friend. It helped Ed feel better. But then Oswald added: "Just try not to shoot her and dump her body in the river again. Or me, for that matter".
That caused Ed to turn to him so fast that his glasses almost flew to the water. "Oswald!"
Even Edward, the dog, looked up at Oswald with judgement in his round brown eyes. Oswald sighed but didn't apologize. He meant what he said. But the look in the eyes of his dog bothered him. "Stop judging me, Edward".
The Riddler, who hadn't noticed Oswald was speaking to his dog, huffed in irritation. "How can I not judge you when you say things like that? You know I'd never do that to her again".
"I was not talking to you, I was talking to him!" Oswald snapped while pointing at his dog. "And what do you mean you'll never do that to 'her' again? What about me?"
"Ugh, we've talked about this," Ed mumbled.
Oswald took a deep breath. "It's going to be alright". His eyes scanned the path which led to the pier. He saw someone appear in his line of vision and the blonde hair cascading down her shoulders told him it was Charlotte coming their way. "There she comes".
Ed's eyes widened once again, but he didn't dare look just yet. "Oh, crud... huh, how do I look?"
"Huh,... as green as usual". Ed was not only dressed in his green suit, but his face was also turning green.
Oswald straightened Ed's tie in an attempt to make him look presentable.
Ed finally took his eyes away from the smoke still rising from the Narrows to look at his soon to be wife. His jaw dropped. Charlotte had to be the most beautiful bride ever. Her long-sleeved light blue dress, dragging on the floor, fluttered back with the breeze.
