You're slipping away
Like sand through my fingers
You said you'd never leave
What kind of promise is that?
These fears are itching
This worry suffocating
You may never know my love for you
But what if you did?
Would you leave like the shadows say?
Would you run for the hills
Or back away into the mists of time?
How desperate of me to beg
Through these words I write
Though you may never know
That they were always yours to begin with.Prove to me
That it's all in my head
Those screams of hatred
These tears of ignorance
Just forgive and forget
Don't remember me this way
If I fade away
Remember the girl I was
When I first met you.
Smiling, welcoming, warm
She wouldn't have left you
But I ran screaming
I ran and ran until I collapsed
Blood under my fingernails
Bruises on my wrists.
I don't want you to know me as
That one crazy girl
Who never kept her word
Because I did.
I promised I'd never leave
But when I walked away
My heart stayed in your hands
Broken and bruised
From your clumsy fingers
And your spiteful trigger
