He went to sleep. I couldn't sleep so I went to the reading room. I felt small surrounded by tall shelves of books. I sat on the recliner in the middle, spacing out, this is my favorite place for missing her. Quiet and lonely.
I went to work like usual after the day of the wedding. Sadly, she didn't come. I received her email, she applied for sick leave. I'm worry about her. But here I'm, stuck in his house, because our marriage was still on trending, we must behaved ourselves this few days until it simmered down.
I didn't dare to text her.
Coincidentally, she also didn't text me back.
I consoled myself she needed time to adjust and it's only been two days.I woke up feeling numb on my lower part of body, I fall asleep in the reading room last night. I checked the phone, not sure I was actually checking the time or expecting a message.
==============================
"Good morning, Dr Mina."
Three of them greeted me. My eyes glanced over her for a second. I missed her so much. I didn't get to see her often due to the preparation of wedding. She looked dull and spiritless, I wish I could hold her between my arms now."Tzuyu, are you alright?" I asked out of concern, not only as the role of supervisor but also as 'girlfriend'.
"No worry, I'm just still on recovery, but I'm fully awake and equal to the tasks." She assured then looked back down, continued arranging the schedule for the day. "Alright. That's good to know." My hand patted on her shoulder, turned my back to her and walked out before I couldn't hold back the urge to hug her from behind.
"Wanna have lunch together?"
I texted Tzuyu. I put my phone back to pocket as a patient trying to reach me. I almost finished my rounds.
"When can I discharged?" A lady asked impatiently.
I checked her chart:
•19 years old
•She was found fainted at a bloody bathtub last night by her parent and sent in soon after.
•The source of blood loss was from a deep cut on her wrist. There were scars on her left wrist and patient had history of suicidal behavior according to her parent.
•The wound was closed with stitches and a splint was given to prevent patient from touching it. Four pints of blood bags was received by the patient for blood transfusion.
•The patient felt nauseous, lightheaded, dizzy after woke up. Recommended stay overnight to be monitored and to see the psychiatrist in the morning and get cleared. There's a review of the psychiatrist on the next page. Psychological counseling was required per week for the patient. I put the chart back down, then checked her body overall condition, she's cleared for discharged.
"Miss Kim, you can discharged now. I'm going to contact your family member for their presence through the discharge process. I'm writing down the tips for taking care of your wound. Please come back if you notice any infection. Feel free to ask if you have questions." I passed the note to her and gave her an assured smile.
She furrowed her eyebrows.
"Thank you Dr..."
She eyed my name tag.
"Dr. Myoui, it won't be necessary to call, I can go home by myself."
She seemed like she doesn't like her parent. Her feet stepped on the floor ready to get out of here. She lost balanced, I quickly grabbed on her from falling. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine." She regained her posture then walking towards the door. She's really stubborn. I following behind her, trying to keep her from doing stupid stuff. She went into bathroom. I stayed there, probably a little bit inappropriate, I leaned against the door, trying to pick up any sound.
I heard a faint sobbing.
Hesitantly, I knocked on the door. The door creaking opened after a while. Her eyes were puffy from crying. "You could share what's occurring your mind, I'm all ears. I'm not a psychiatrist, so this is free of charge." I tried to lighten up by cracking a little joke.
She sniffed a laugh, she then spaced out, lost in her thought before speak out. "Why I must tailor to the popular taste? The entire thing was just stupid! They think I'm the shame to the family, they can't accept who I really am. I'm just different!" Her voice raised up.
Her words pounded me hard without knowing. I felt like hers except I chose the easiest way. At least she fought for it, I just gave up straight away without trying because I am a coward.
She was checking my reaction, then took a deep breath, seemed like she was about to break a news. "I cut myself to escape from them. The first time I cut myself, they didn't even dare to bring me to hospital, they just put some first aid to stop the bleeding. After that, they let me do what I want. But soon after, they started to regret their decision, they restricted me from going out and checking me every night. This is my only chance of getting away from them, so please don't call them." She begged, she seemed so vulnerable.
"Did u have any places to go?" I asked, concerned about her livings. She hesitated. "Doctor, can I borrow your phone?" She dialed in a numbers then put it against her ear.
"Hello, it's Kim." There's a moment of silence. I stayed there in silence as well, not rushing.
"I miss you." Kim said. It's out of my expectation, feeling awkward to this situation. I flipped the paper which is on my palm to the next page, pretending I was busy.
"I'm free from their control now." She continued. I'm curious who's on the other side and the whole story.
"I'm at Osaka Hospital." She addressed. "See ya." She returned my phone and informed, "She'll be here in an hour."
Ohh....it's her. No wonder.
I checked my phone, Tzuyu sent a message minutes ago.
"I'm not hungry. I'm gonna take a walk at the hospital park."
I excused myself then exit the room. A sudden surge of anxiety occurring over me.From crowded concrete corridor to peaceful garden pavement, to the person sitting under the tree with her eyes closed.
My feet rustling through the grass towards her direction, which alerted her. Our eyes met. I smiled warmly, then sat next to her. I put my head on her shoulder. "I miss you." Literally, from the bottom of my heart. I really miss her presence, it's calming me down. I felt extremely anxious after the wedding, I'm scared of losing her.
Her lips pressed on my head, then I heard her whispered, "I miss you too." Her palm caressed on my hair. I wrapped my arm around her torso, curled up just like a kitten in her embrace. She's all I ever need in my life; she's the only shoulder I could lean on; I'm getting dependent on her: I can't lose her.
