'Who are you?' Mario thought in his head. Surely this "Alice" person would have to respond in his head if she really did "possess" him. Ironically enough, he got a response.
"About time. I was waiting for you to say something already. So, are you still going with four-eyes over there? Didn't I tell you he can't be trusted? Yet you still want to help him "escape?" How do you know he's not using you, Mario-?"
'Stop it already. I don't need your delusional ideas in my head. And you didn't answer my question. Who are you?' Mario thought angrily. There was a pause before he heard her voice again.
"I'm Alice? Weren't you listening?"
'I know your name. I mean I want to know who you are as a person. And why you possessed me.' Alice was a bit taken aback before she answered again.
"Oh. Just say so then, jeez. I was a resident of this mansion, and even owned it. Well, that was before Riba went ahead and murdered me of course."
"What?!?!" Mario said aloud, completely unaware of Riba looking at him like he had twelve heads.
"Well, I'm sorry, but I really don't want to have to stay here any longer. I could really use your help." Riba said in a dangerous tone. Mario just looked at him with a confused face.
"Wait, what?" Mario asked him. Riba looked stunned.
"Huh? Were you not just responding to what I said a minute ago? I was just telling you I was going to have to stay with you for a while, until we found someway to undo the curse Alice set on the mansion, preventing me from leaving. You were listening, right?" Mario started to turn red. Oh man! He hadn't realized he had accidentally responded out loud.
"Ah, oh no! I'm sorry Riba, I wasn't talking to you-! Ah, no! I mean, I wasn't talking to anyone but....my..self...."
"Pfffff!!!! Ha! You couldn't even lie if it were to save your pathetic life!" Mario shook his head to try to get her voice out of his head. Why? Why was this happening to him? He just wanted to hurry up and finish this investigation, and get out of here, and-
"So Alice has been communicating with you I see." Riba in a nonchalant tone. Mario was a bit stunned. He knew?
"R-Riba I-" Mario started, but Riba held up his hand to stop him. He had a soft look on his face.
"It's alright Mario. You were scared. I get it. It always happens to the victims of this house. They get enveloped by fear, and eventually..... death is inevitable." Mario had a horrified look on his face. He then asked,
"How.... are you still alive?" Riba's was taken aback, he looked down. He then replied,
"It's part of this damned curse. Which is why I want to get rid of it. What I wish for is..... freedom," Riba said with determination. Mario just stared at him for a while, before a huge smile appeared on his face. He nodded. That's right. He came to stop the horrors here. And he could help some people here along the way! He didn't have to let the horrors here stop him.
And then Alice's words rung in his head: Well, that was before Riba went ahead and murdered me of course. His demeanor changed back to fear. He hesitantly opened his mouth.
"That's it Mario. Ask him. Then you'll see the monster he really is." Alice said menacingly. Mario instead said,
"R-right! I'll help you get out of this place, don't worry!" Alice stayed silent in Mario's head, before saying,
"You.... idiot."

Riba was able to guide Mario to a small study that kept most of the mansion's records. Riba told him that the records here would have all the residents who lived here listed; an opportunity he couldn't just pass up, as they would be key counterparts to his investigation. Mario would now have the full picture of what had happened here..... before all of this.Mario looked through some of the record books, and a certain picture caught his attention. It was bit old, but he was able to make out the contents of it. Guessing from the content showed, it seemed to be a family portrait. And to his shock, Riba was in it. He looked to Riba.
"Is this you?" Mario asked him. Riba nodded as he closed eyes.
"Yes. That's me, along with Alice and our family." Mario's eyes widened."A-Alice? Which one is-"
"She's the one in the blue dress, with blond hair." Mario looked back to the picture. Sure enough, there she was. She had long, dirty blond hair, with lime-like eyes."Interesting isn't it? Riba and I were happily married, and we even had a daughter together. Until he decided I wasn't needed anymore. Makes you question his words, doesn't it?" Mario ignored Alice's words as he shook his head.
"What did she say?" Riba asked. Mario looked up at him.
"Oh it was nothing, don't worry about it. Although, she did tell me you two were married. Is..... that true?" Riba looked down for a bit. He then sighed."Yes, Mario. That's the truth." Mario widened his eyes.
"W-what?! T-then why did you mur-!" Mario immediately stopped himself. He didn't want to start something. Riba's face changed into a frown.
"Why did I what?" he asked, anger hinted inside. Mario started to sweat.
"I-I meant to say, what happened to your marriage. She seems to hate you a lot. Why?" Riba's face seemed to soften a bit. He then answered,
"I..... don't really want talk about it..... bad memories. Please don't ask." Mario then had an empathetic look on his face.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean..... I won't ask again, don't worry." Riba then made a small smile on his face."Bad memories? THAT DEMON KILLED ME WITH A RUSTY CROWBAR!!!!!!" Right after Alice said that, Mario's mind immediately went back to the crowbar he found on the porch. His eyes widened in fear.
"W-What? What happened? Did that wrench say something-"
"Riba...... did you murder Alice?"
Riba went speechless.
