Mason heard his crying, his room being close to his, and came to investigate. He found Will sobbing his heart out, blood running down his arm and clutching the glowing blue collar around his neck in pain. Mason felt his heart sink, great, not only was he feeling sorry for him, he wanted to kill Ford.
"Will? Are you okay?" he asked, coming over and sitting down beside him."F-Fine" the demon whispered. Mason put a hand on his shoulder, noticing as soon as he touched him how shaky he was, "What did he do to you?"
"Just took some more blood, I'm a wimp," Will muttered,
"There's got to be more to that," Mason said, trying to coax a bit more info out of him. Will wiped his face.
"I refused, and he hurt me...I really don't like needles"
Mason sighed, "Look, I know you won't want to hear this, but from experience, Ford has this weird attraction to the number three... E.g. he said he's not going to write any more after he finishes the third Journal, there's only three Gleefuls in the house at any one time, so sooner or later I think he might take a third syringe...and well, you know"
Will's face paled "Great, just great, what's he going to do next? Cut me open?"
Mason's silence made it well known and Will sobbed,
"Hey it's okay, he'll put you to sleep, you won't feel a thing, if he does..."
Will got to his feet, trembling from head to toe, "Oh my stars, h-he's insane, I can't s-stay here. I g-got to go," he stuttered. Mason stopped him, grabbing the hem of his shirt and tugging him back, "No no no, if you try to escape, he really will have it out for you, right now he's just warming up. Will, please he'll make your life a living hell if you try to escape, please, it's not worth it!"
Mason stood up and grabbed his arms as Will wriggled in his grip. He looked him dead in the eyes, those bright blue orbs kind and soft "Please"
"But, I'm scared" Will whispered,
Mason smiled softly "Don't be, you got me"
And it was right then and there that Mason decided that he would protect William as best as he could, be there for him when he needed it.
Ford could suck it.

Will turned the music up and Mason sighed "This is weird"
"You think you're embarrassed" Will grumbled,
Mason chuckled. "Hey!"
Will grabbed one of his hands and put it on his waist, not noticing the blush on Mason's cheek "Do we have to be so close?"
Will nodded "Unfortunately," he said, pulling him a little closer. Mason made a small flustered noise and Will smile "Relax, you'll do fine"
"What's going on in here?" came a snide voice, they looked up to see Mabel with her phone in her hand, tapping away at it with manicured fingers.
"Williams teaching me to dance" Mason answered. Mabel snorted "So I guess you won't mind me filming? I'm sure you're going to fuck it up."
Mason huffed "Just stay quiet. "
Will made him memorize the steps as they danced, as the Waltz was the only dance the Winter Gala did, anything else was frowned upon. By the end of the day, Mason had gained progress and Will was only too happy to have a break and relax his aching feet. "My feet hurt" Will whined, Mason chuckled "Sorry, I did step on them quite a bit."
"Only a few thousand."
Mason cuffed his head softly earning a laugh from the bluenette. "Do you think I'll be ready in time for the Gala?"
"Most definitely."

The Winter Gala came less than a week later. Will had been very busy preparing for it, avoiding Ford and trying his best not to fuck everything up. So, as the people mixed and mingled, Will knew it wouldn't be too long till he had to face Ford soon.
"William!" a voice called, Will looked up from leaning against the wall by the door, he was wearing a white suit, mostly made with magic, it looked rather good on him. Will looked around, eyebrows furrowed in confusion as to who it was, "Over here you useless demon!" the voice snapped. Will's eyes settled on Ford, who was standing beside a group of people all staring at him as they huddled by the snack table. Will sighed and came over "Yes, Master?"
Ford smacked his head. "Don't you sass mouth me. Hunter? Fiddleford, Tom? This is William Cipher, the demon I was telling you about."
Will looked at the floor nervously, fingers fiddling with the hem of his dress jacket.
"Are you going to say hello? Or are you going to stand there pretending to be a statue?" Ford asked him, poking his shoulder. Will looked up. "Hello," he said, avoiding eye contact. Fiddleford cocked his head. "You're not being serious, are you? You've just dyed this young man's hair blue! I swear everything you touch becomes blue, like King Midas."
Will looked up at him, slitted pupils scared, "N-No, I'm a real demon, just not a very good one," he replied. Fiddleford's eyes widen and he grabbed Wills head, tilting his face up to the light to see his eyes better "Nope, no sign of contact lens, well Pointdexter, I'm impressed, a real demon, how did you manage that?"
Will tried to move away, but Ford grabbed him and pulled him back "Summoning spell, magic, wizard shit, really Fidds I could go on for hours how long it took me to plan this, the point is, I've got a demon as a servant, and you don't!" Ford grinned. Fidds rolled his eyes and smirked.
"Master?" Will asked,
Ford turned to him. "Yes?"
"Can I go now? Please?"
Ford let him go and Will raced off. Fidds eyed him as he left. "You stuck a knife in him yet?"
"No Fidds, I haven't even gotten to that stage yet. I need time to plan a comprehensive study."
Will ran out the ballroom and pressed himself up against the wall, his head buzzing, he felt so sick; He closed his eyes and clutched his head, breathing hard and trying to calm himself down. He felt a hand on his shoulder, gentle and kind. "Will? Are you okay? He didn't hit you did he?" Mason asked. Will shook his head "N-No"
"Then I don't understand"
"I'm just having a panic attack" Will said, giving Mason a reassuring smile.
Ford looked at his watch as the people chattered away. "Dancing soon, are you three ready?"
His friends nodded.
Mason looked back into the ballroom as the music changed, and sighed "Great, now I got to dance" he grumbled.
Will peeked in "See anyone good?"
Mason pointed to a blonde-haired girl "Pacifica,"
"Do you remember what I taught you?"
Mason nodded "Thankfully, wish me luck?"
"Luck" Will called after him as Mason went back in.
Will watched them dance, it was all rather in sync and the music was strange, rather more suited for a dramatic scene than a ballroom party. Mason looked up and smiled at him. Will smiled back and waved, eyes glancing at Fidds. The man was watching him like a Hawk. Will smiled and waved to him, mentally chuckling as the man's eye twitched. Will poked his tongue out at Fidds when Ford wasn't looking and disappeared to the kitchen to clean up.
