The party continued and Will kept playing, but for some strange reason, the music he created got sadder and sadder as the bow moved softly over the strings. Mason looked up in confusion from his cookie to see his boyfriend sobbing as quietly as he could.
No one else had noticed, not even Ford, who was secretly holding Fidd's hand as they stood behind their other friends. Mabel was standing with her own friends, Candy, and Grenda, both whom were always looking like one scoff away from being disgusted with everything.
Will finished his song and set the violin back down in it's case, wiping his face with the back of his hand as everyone clapped. He bowed politely and left the room quickly, sitting down in the hallway just outside the door. It was only when he was satisfied that he was alone did he sob out loud. The tear's overflowed from his blue eyes and streamed down his face, staining his white suit jacket in a salty dampness.
He missed his brother so much, and it hurt so bad, like his heart had been broken in two and squished to a bloodied pulp before being stuffed roughly back into his chest. Fidds gave Ford a confused look "Is he okay?" he asked, pointing to the door.
"I don't know, I'll let Mason handle it" Ford replied, watching as his nephew followed after the distressed looking demon.
Hunter sighed and took out his pocket watch to look at the time "We're late for the dance, is it to be continued? Or are we going to have to cancel due to your servant's incompetence?"
Ford waved his hand at him, "No, everything is as it should be, get everyone ready, I need to go see why my demon is upset."
"Going soft?" Hunter asked, a smirk on his face. Ford growled and turned to him, finger prodding the man's purple suit jacket "Don't you ever call me soft, Hunter Matchitehew!" he snarled. Hunter stood tall and gave him a satisfied nod. "Just checking, wouldn't want Filbrick's perfect little pet showing weakness now, would we?" the man asked, raising an eyebrow.
Ford's eye twitched, but he ignored it, sauntering off to go check on Will.
The demon was in the hallway, leaning onto Mason for comfort. Clutched in his fingers was a golden bow tie. "Will? Please tell me what's wrong." Mason asked, confusion on his face.
"I m-miss him s-so much" Will sobbed. Mason didn't have to question his boyfriend, he knew who he was talking about, it was Will's brother, the one who had died.
"I know, Will, I know, it's okay" Mason soothed, hugging him close.
Fidds peered around the door "William? The man asked, kneeling down to his level. Ford pulled him back to his feet "Fidds, no!" he hissed in annoyance, checking to make sure Hunter hadn't seen.
"What? The demon misses his twin, Stanford! You have a twin, Mason has a twin, both of you should know how hard it would be to lose your other half, annoying or not,"
Will shook his head, "It's f-fine, Fiddleford...honestly"
Ford sighed, "I didn't know he was your twin..."
Will stood up and stuffed the bow tie back in his pocket "My brothers name was Bill, he tried taking over the dimension opposite this, promised we'd rule it together, but he never came back and I felt him...die...he was in pain and I couldn't d-do anything!" Will was beside himself with grief by now, trembling where he stood.
"He's all I h-had left..." he said, his voice strained.
Mason stood up and hugged him tightly "You have me."
Will smiled softly, he was right, why it wasn't much, it was something and that seemed to fill a part of his heart that was evidently missing, made everything ache less. Mason wiped the tears from his face as he pulled away and gave him a smile., and Will smiled back before he turned to Ford and Fidds, glancing at their hands now clasped together.
