chapter five

Adam ran outside, Samandriel soon following. There was a light blanket of snow on the ground, and little flurries were still falling. "I love snow."

"Me too."

"Hey Sammie..." Adam trailed off. "Do you wanna build a snowman?"

Samandriel rolled his eyes while Adam giggled.

They walked along the sidewalk, Adam occasionally throwing little clumps of snow at Samandriel, who would just giggle and throw more back.

"Shh," Samandriel said, placing his hand over Adam's mouth to keep him from talking. Adam licked Samandriel's hand and the smaller boy just glared at him, before squinting at the snow. Adam mumbled something against his hand, but Samandriel ignored it, pulling his hand away from Adam and walking towards a noise he heard. He picked something up and walked over to Adam.

"It's a kitten," Samandriel murmured. "Out in the snow all by itself!"

He brushed the snow off of it. It was shivering, so he pulled it to his chest. It was grey and fluffy and had folded ears and stubby legs.

"It's a munchkin cat!" Adam exclaimed.

"It's a Scottish Fold you idiot," Samandriel corrected. "And it's a boy. I'm gonna keep it."

"You can't take it to school! It could have rabies!"

"Then it would've bitten me already. I'll take care of it. Just let me help him, he's lonely. No one deserves to be lonely."

"If I get in trouble by this..." Adam warned, his blue eyes shining playfully.

"His name is Alfie," Samandriel stated proudly, before putting the shivering kitten in his front pocket, placing his hands in there to warm it up.

"You're insane."

"I know," Samandriel smirked.

Lunch rolled around and no one except Adam knew that there was a kitten in Samandriel's pocket.

Samandriel gave the kitten his milk and giggled when Alfie licked his hand.
Adam rolled his eyes and Samandriel just smiled happily at his little treasure.

They decided to hang out after school, and the whole way home, Samandriel giggled and poked at Alfie.

"I think I'm in love with him!" Samandriel exclaimed.

"But...I thought what we had was special!" Adam complained jokingly and Samandriel rolled his eyes.

"We're over. I'm leaving you for Alfie."
Adam just smiled and rolled his eyes.
"But my dad won't let me keep him-"

"He can stay at my house. Ellen won't mind...I don't think so, anyway, but you can visit him whenever you want," Adam said and Samandriel's eyes lit up, which made Adam's mind turn to mush. He liked seeing Samandriel happy.

"Really?! Oh my God you're the best!" Samandriel pecked Adam's cheek and skipped towards Adam's house happily. Adam blushed scarlet, before stopping at his doorstep.

"Wrong way, doofus!" Adam called and Samandriel turned around, before muttering "oh" and skipping towards Adam. The taller boy opened the door quickly and embraced the warmth. "Ah! Heat!" he yelled and jumped onto the couch.

"Don't forget about me and Alfie...he needs food and a litter box."

"He can have some tuna and I'll set out a newspaper. It'll do until I can go to the store on Saturday. Is that okay?"

"Yeah. Thanks Adam...really, you've been really nice to me lately, even though we've only known each other for like-"

"No chick flic moments. And you're welcome. Let's watch a movie."
