Probably one of the worst days of the year. Blood drive day. And here I thought the hardest part of the whole wolf thing was the full moon. It's not, it's smelling all the blood all over the school. It's never hard to control my urges on any other day but when everyone smells like a delicious meal cause of a hole in their body it makes me want to just turn and take them all. I knew it was going to be a hard day so instead of wearing my usual outfit of a cool jacket and awesome t-shirt didn't appeal to me. I instead got an over-sized sweatshirt and sweatpants and left the house. When Sarah saw me she understood immediately.
"You too?" She confirmed.
"They all just look like treats to me today," I groaned.
She nodded, "I need junk food," She ran to the vending machine and grabbed a bag of chips, I however went to the soda machine and got a coke bottle and downed it so fast I had to buy another, the sugar and caffeine really helped with the cravings.
"Okay-" I took another gulp, "I think we need to hit the ground running. We're both struggling just from the smell but I think we need to be in the blood drive room. This way it won't be so bad!" I suggested.
"Great idea!" She agreed and we slowly made our way to the room where the volunteer nurses were taking blood from the student body.
Walking in the two of us were either chugging or crunching on our scapegoats. I noticed that there were only guys in the room. The only women were the two nurses, Sarah and me. Ethan and Benny saw the two of us in the corner and they both came up to us.
"Hey guys," They greeted.
"What's up?" I asked, my eyes glued to the needle that was transferring the blood to the bag. I took another sip of the coke bottle.
"Not much," Ethan answered.
Benny looked at me, "You okay?"
"I'm fine, Don't I look fine? I think I look fine. Sarah do I look fine?" I asked antsy not looking away from the blood.
"You look fine Kayla, do I look fine?" She asked, I noticed she had some leftover chip on the corner of her mouth.
"You have like half a bag of chips on your face," Ethan told her.
Benny looked at me up and down, "And you look like you're about to explode from all the soda you're drinking."
Sarah stopped looking at the blood upset and cleaned her mouth, I looked away from the blood to Benny, who watched me with concern. I put the cap on my soda bottle.
"Seeing all this blood is really getting to you both huh?" Ethan asked.
"It's like telling a gambling addict not to play but then you dump them in front of a casino!" I felt my hand twitch. "I can hear the heartbeats of whoever they're taking blood from and my mouth just starts watering."
"It's Erica I'm more worried about," Sarah announced, "She doesn't have our self-control, and if-"
"Hey Sarah!" Erica poked her head by us, we all turned to look at her in shock; she was dressed in a nurses' uniform. She held out a tray of cookies, "Anyone want a cookie?" She smiled and showed us her fangs.
At that I just had to leave, I couldn't be in there anymore. I dragged Benny with me to the vending machine to get another soda. "I don't know if I'm gonna be able to be in this building today, it's taking all of my strength not to run in there as a dog and rip everyone to shreds."
"Hey, don't stress cause that's only going to make it worse. You got this. I know you do," He smiled at me, "And if you're really struggling you know you can always go to my grandma, she has all those weird blood bags that she never uses I'm sure she'll give you some." He reminded me.
