Conversation skills were never Devin's strong suite, which had always affected him whenever he tried to make friends. Accompanying his attitude was sheer awkwardness. People never really seemed intrigued by his 'sas' nor his interests whenever he had gotten pass saying "hi", so after multiple failed attempts he had given up completely. Who needed friends anyway. All they did was bring drama and problems. He was then labeled as 'the quiet kid' due to his new introverted personality and had went about most of his highschool years unnoticed and out of drama.
But now he was being noticed. And by quite alot of people. The last few weeks of school had been filled with whispers and insults. The girl who had originally tried to talk him down made her friends join in in whatever joke it seemed he was the bud of. No one had physically hurt him but it was getting more terrifying everytime he saw the jocks behind him on his way home. It was amazing what a simple rumor could do. Everyone was quick to assume and ate up what little reason they needed to justify their harsh treatment towards him.
Christine knew. She would be stupid if she didn't. He was practically the talk of the school. It pained him to think of what she might say. He loved Christine. She was the sweetest girl he ever met and he didn't want to lose her.... he couldn't. How would it affect their relationship? How would it affect her relationship with Jason? He didn't want to think about it. Jason had been taking the time he would normally spend with Christine to protect him because he was afraid of what would happen to him if he wasn't there. He hated to admit that he couldn't handle himself without Jason, but God was he terrified of the thought of Jason being absent.
He had decided to stay home to do both Christine and Jason a favor. They needed time together, he wasn't going to be the wedge to drive their relationship apart.
His parents were gradually becoming more worried with each passing day. They had seen how verbal bullying had affected people. How it damaged them. They could not allow that to happen to their only child. They had asked him to tell the principal, but would that really help? If he were to complain and had gotten the said students detention or suspension, wouldn't that just add fuel to the fire? They surely wouldn't allow him to get off so easily.
Right now he had no options. The best case scenarios were that they forget or that something happens to make them believe he isn't gay. He could just lie and say he had a girlfriend but then they would ask for her name and her picture which would again put him in even more trouble if they found out he was lying. He didn't want to think about it.... atleast if worse comes to worse he'll still have Jason around....
