The Hybrid That Shook Inkopolis

A group of inklings looked concerned, sitting at a table on the cool Winter day.
The group of two girls and one boy looked at each other, not knowing what to do. They didn't have an extra teammate, and a Turf War was up coming within the month.
The lead female, Sugar, was baffled on what to do. They were an orange team, and there was no one else looking for a team.
"What do we do..?" Sugar asks, looking at her teammates Luna and Rudy.
Luna shakes her head "I have a feeling were just shit out of luck again.."
"Now Luna don't say that!" Sugar looks at her "c'mon! We just need ideas! How about you, Rudy?"
Rudy was quiet, staring off into the distance.
"Rudy?" Sugar snapped her fingers, bringing him back to reality.
"Yes?" he asks, trying to play it off.
"What were you looking at" Luna looks behind her, seeing nothing of interest.
Rudy slowly points to a family of three, only of them looking kind of weird.
"...holy...fucking...shit." Luna's jaw slightly dropped, looking back at Sugar. "Call the celebrities."

Meggy looked at Tari, loosening the grip of her scarf "you know Tari, im glad you finally agreed to come to Inkopolis. Only took you two dates, a wedding, and a baby" Meggy jokes.
"W-Well im shy. Maybe one day I'll bring you and Desti home to see my culture. Isn't that right my sweet little flower blossom??" Tari lifts up her baby, kissing her cheek gently. The child squealed, her much more unique traits standing out. Her blue onesie with the name Desti sown in orange print, named after ones of Meggy's old friends who sadly passed saving her life.
The baby's face and head were much interesting as well. Her cheeks shared Tari's pink circles, and while her human hair was mostly orange, she still had a long streak of light blue hair. Not to mention that she also had orange tentacles. She was...a hybrid of a human and an inkling.

"You think we could introduce her to some Crusty Sean's?" Meggy smiles.
"C'mon Meggy, she just learned what solids were a week ago. She's not ready for seafood." Tari giggles, holding the young hybrid close to her chest. The hybrid, Desti, cuddled against her mother in an attempt to stay warm and safe.
"C'mon Tari..the earlier you show her healthy food, the earlier she'll love it." Meggy smiles.
Tari gives in to Meggy's idea. "Alright go order...I'll find us a table."
Tari looked around for any available seats, sitting at a table in front of the team of three from earlier. She slowly looks at the toddler in her arms. "Give her a minute sweetie, good fast doesn't come fast..." Tari giggles.

Rudy turned around, looking at Tari. He began playing with her hair, never seeing anything like it.
Luna gave him a death stare to stop him, but he didn't budge. His curiosity was too much.

Tari slowly looks behind herself terrified, seeing Rudy so close. "Hey!" he cheers.
Tari waves slowly, trying to scoot to the other side of the table.
"You look like a human!" Rudy cheers, Luna facepalming.
"Oh...nice" Tari chuckles nervously.
Meggy came back, seeing Tari nervous. She leans closer to her, whispering "is something wrong, sweetheart?"
"No...I think...someone's noticed" Tari gulps, looking at Rudy, who was still smiling and waving.
"Don't worry, I got this"
"Your baby looks kinda funky." Rudy tries saying it in the most polite way he can.
Meggy looks at him, hoping to drive him off "and what's it to you?"
She said it too loud, a few more tables looking back to see what was going on.
Tari pulled her knees to her chest, doing her best to hide Desti from everyone. Though everyone could tell a human from a squid, let alone a hybrid of the two.
The inklings just stared, observing Tari and Desti. They've never seen such creatures before.

The commotion lead to Marina and Pearl walking into the issue "what's going on here?" Pearl quickly sees Tari and her daughter, jaw dropping.
"Marina....did you make the special brownies?" Pearl asks.
Marina shakes her head "no...what's the iss-..." Marina goes quiet too.
The silence rose tension in the family of three in the center. Unfortunately, the youngling was too innocent and young to handle this pressure. She began to tear up and cry, the mother who held her was under too much pressure to do anything about it.
Marina looks at Pearl and slowly takes the baby from her grasp, swaddling it gently. She managed to keep it calm, Pearl looking at the child now that it was closer.
She noticed the human hair paired with the tentacles, and her blue streak and the pink cheeks, and noticeable lack of eyeshadow.
"Marina..." Pearl slowly looks at Tari and Meggy. "I think we got something special on our hands.."
"No kidding.." Marina smiles nervously, walking over and holding Tari's hand. "Hello, ma'am..think you and your wife could come with us?"
Tari slowly stands up, Meggy eagerly walking beside Tari.
Marina slowly hands Tari back her baby, Tari trying to start small talk once they were far enough from the crowd.
"Sooo...what are we doing?" Tari smiles, holding her child close to her.
"You are aware you're the first human to step foot in Inkopolis territory, correct?" Marina asks.
Tari nods slowly, Pearl leaning over to remind her "and you gave birth to the first human inkling..fusion child!"
Meggy nods, looking a little excited for what they would do. "So...what do you plan to do?"
"Well...we were thinking about interviewing you. Live. In Inkopolis." Marina suggests.
"LIVE!?" Tari jumps, nearly dropping Desti.
Desti looks at her mother, looking concerned. She sensed there was an issue, but couldn't comprehend the issue exactly.
"Is....that an issue?" Marina asks, looking at Pearl nervously.
"Its how she is all the time...she's...very camera shy" Meggy nods "is there anything else you had in mind?"
Tari looked at Meggy, wanting to just go home and not deal with being big and famous for simply her species and child.
"Uh...well...could our scientists come in and...examine you? See how close we are to your anatomy?" Marina asks
"Uh...well..." Tari looks at Desti, who was messing with her metallic arm, mostly admiring how shiny it was.
"Oh..." Pearl leaned over to see it in full detail "did...all humans have that?"
"No..." Tari shakes her head "this is only a...new thing people have done. Its to aid in professional gaming..."
Pearl smiles "professional GAMING!? Marina can we keep it!?"
Meggy and Tari slowly look at each other nervously.
Marina sighs lightly "alright. I have another idea. But...I'll need to consult the other two."
"Other two?" Meggy asks, but slowly remembers two familiar faces. "STAY FRESH!!"
Callie and Marie slowly walk out, looking confused.
"What do you need, guys?" Callie asks, seeing Tari and Desti. "Is that....a human!? And a hybrid!?"
Marie slowly walks up to Tari, quiet and gentle. She slowly grabs Tari's chin, messing around with her body parts. She plays with her hair, pokes her chest, examines her eyes, structure, everything.
Marie slowly held Desti, smiling gently. Desti stared at her, not recognizing her.
"Well...shit. We have a inkling human on our hands..." Marie's eyes widen, her voice toned down.
Tari slowly takes her child back. "Yes...she's a hybrid..."
"This is feeling a lot like Ghostbusters 2..." Meggy mumbles
"Well...we could see if she's waterproof." Marie suggests.
Meggy immediately got angry "Hell no! What if she isn't and she gets her hand burnt!?"
"Meggy, darling, calm down...imagine her future...she could be a real good splatfester if she can survive water.." Tari rubs Meggy's shoulder.
"...will you guys at least care for her if she does get hurt...?" Meggy asks.
"Of course." Callie nods, taking Desti "its too cute to leave in pain!"
"Good then...I guess we can try.." Meggy rolls her eyes, slowly walking inside the building.
The rest followed suit, bringing Desti and her parents to a bucket of water.
"...moment of truth...?" Meggy sighs, holding her daughter. She decided to do it herself, rolling up the pant leg on her onesie.
Marina slowly hugged Tari, hiding her face so she didn't have to risk seeing the pain if it didn't work.
Pearl and Callie leaned on the table, watching excitedly while Marie waited for the result.
Meggy slowly pushed Desti's foot into the water.
Nothing happened.
The baby girl giggled and kicked the water around, having fun with it.

Marie, Callie, Pearl, Marina, Tari, and Meggy's jaws dropped, eyes widening.
"...the first waterproof squid kid..." Meggy whispers.
