Yet again, Astra found herself trembling in the looming presence of her leader, Kylo Ren. The familiar clicking of uniformed black boots hitting the black tiled hallways droned and echoed throughout her head. Her hands shook by her sides as the knights of Ren finally split left at the 4 way junction they had just reached. Ren continued to walk straight ahead, attempting to reach his quarters. Astra was amazed that no one yet had questioned her presence. A stormtrooper following the Knights of Ren? It was an incredibly unusual site to see.
"Excuse me!" Astra whimpered, whilst half jogging up to her leader who's lengthy strides more than doubled her lagging pace. Ren paused before spinning around on his heels to face her. Astra clutched her blaster in her hands. Ren's face was completely concealed by his mask; yet she still felt the cold stare of his eyes hitting hers.
"You're not permitted to be up here." Ren scoffed, as he got closer towards her. Astra gulped nervously, quickly remembering her rank. She was merely a trooper, she had no permission to be up here.
"I know, but-" Before she could finish, Ren cut her off.
"State your operating number," he demanded harshly.
"Uh, AT-283," Astra stuttered, fearing what Ren would have in store for her.
"B-but my name is Astra," she croaked, nearly choking on her own spit. Silence fell between them, she wasn't sure who might speak next. Ren's black cloak hung off his broad shoulders as he straightened his back. It was almost like he was sizing her up in attempt to eat her. He truly was a menacing leader. No more than 10 seconds passed before Ren let out a small sarcastic chuckle.
"It's funny," Ren started.
"What is?" Astra questioned, and once again
silence fell between them.
"It's funny that you think you deserve to have a name," Ren chuckled once more and Astra could feel her stomach tie in knots. She grit her teeth under her mask and tightened her free hand into a hard fist. That name was given to her for a reason. The last person she ever saw gave her that name as a token of bravery before she was stolen by the first order and trained as a stormtrooper.
Astra shook off his cold remark. Ren was supposedly notorious for his quick jabs. Rumours spread like wild fire, even on a ship this large.
Everyday, a trooper would witness or be the catalyst of Ren's childish behaviour, and of course Astra would hear about it."I came here to thank you," Astra began cautiously. She loosened her shoulders and straightened her slouching back. Perhaps she would be able to fake confidence, and maybe Ren would treat her as an equal.
"For what exactly?" Ren inquired forcefully, paying no mind to how Astra carried herself.
"Thank you for saving my life on Taris." Astra recalled a moment from earlier that day, when Ren personally took down 3 Rebels who had her cornered.
Ren paused, and Astra began to feel a small tickling sensation within her skull.
"It was merely a coincidence," he replied. "Your blood does not fall on my hands regardless, I simply wanted the rebels dead," he added harshly before turning his back to her and attempting to end the conversation right there. But Astra wasn't done speaking.
"The fact that you even remember the incident shows that you care at least a little bit," Astra retorted before immediately biting her lip. Ren stopped again.
Astra felt her mouth instantaneously dry. Her lungs felt like they were beginning to cave in as Ren briskly turned around and threw her limp body up against the wall. Astra's blaster tumbled to the black tiled floor, hitting it with a loud metal clang. Her throat closed in as her body stuck to the wall like a magnet.
"Listen to me child," he began.
"You are nothing but a worthless trooper who is disposable in every aspect," he continued.
"Your mind is weak and easy to pick apart," he growled as he continued to suspend Astra against the wall.Astra could feel Ren choking her, yet she did not feel the need to resist. It was somewhat comical, the rumours were true! Ren was simply a problematic child who solved all his problems with aggression.
Somehow, Astra still felt small pockets of air enter and leave her lungs. The more she secretly laughed at the boy in her head, the less tension she felt around her frail neck.
"S-stop," Astra managed to push out, but Ren only got more enraged.
"Stop resisting," he growled, his electronic voice echoing down the long winding hallways of the ship. Astra felt her head lighten. The same tickling sensation she felt moments before spread throughout her skull, seeping into what she assumed was her brain. After what felt like an eternity, Ren finally let her down. She fell to the ground with a large clunk, landing next to her blaster.
"How did you resist me," Ren puzzled. Astra lay on the black tile, desperately trying to fill her lungs with a sufficient amount of air.
"Who are you," Ren was livid. He rushed towards her listless body before barbarically tearing her helmet of her head. A long mess of ebony hair tumbled out of the helmet, cascading onto the charcoal toned tile beneath her. Ren sat her up, keeping her back against the wall.
"Who are you," he urged, ignorantly expecting a better answer than when he had asked her for her operating number.
"Astra," she replied. Her mouth ached for water, for the dryness she felt in her mouth was too intense. Her eyes burned in fear and her hands could do nothing more than shake by her sides.
"Astra what," Ren pressed further.
"Just Astra," she croaked, holding back a well of tears that seemed to be pooling at the front of her eyes. Ren was silent. She could feel his hate projecting on to her. It felt like small waves in an ocean, calm at first, but as the wind picked up, those minuscule lapping waves turned into marvellous tsunamis.
"Medic, attend to my quarters immediately," Ren demanded through his mask. Ren studied her face intently, picking up every last detail.
"W-what did I do?" Astra stammered, as Ren stood her up, and pushed her against the wall with a single hand on her chest.
"There is something different about you, Astra," he pronounced, keeping a steady force against her.
Within seconds, a team of medics arrived to his quarters, quickly following Ren's orders with a flurry of "yes my lord's" and "yes sir's". Within mere minutes of the initial interaction, she was rushed off into the medical bay.
