The days passed, weeks passed, and months passed, Nasreen became heavy with pregnancy. She looked at her ripened figure in the mirror, the touched her high chubby cheekbones, she had grown from everywhere even her nose. She was always complaining to Irfan that the nose won't go back to its normal size. Irfan always told her she looked even more beautiful.
That was why her sisters and husband decided to throw her a surprise baby shower. Coupled with it was their first anniversary, one year of different trials and tests one year of knowing and loving each other, one year of patience, one year of commitment.
Nasreen was face timing with Sultana. "Happy anniversary Nas, May Allah continue to bless your union, May your lives be filled with abundant bliss and children who would be the coolness of your eyes."
"Amin, Yaya thanks, how are my babies?" She asked after Sabir and Sabran. "They are fine, sai rashin ji da surutu." "I miss them so much, how's the little one doing?"
"Hmm, ki bari kawai Nasreen, Ina da cikin Dan qauye, Dan wake, yar tsala, Tuwo da miyar kuka nake son na ci, I don't know what to do."
"Ouch, so sorry, don't worry, I will package some for you when Amal is coming." They were stilling FaceTiming when Irfan came in."Greetings to the soon to be father, ah! I wish I could make it over there." "Hi, Sulti," Irfan replied plastering a soft kiss on Nasreen's forehead. They exchanged pleasantries with Sultana.
"You look, good baby mama." "Please for heaven's sake would you stop calling me baby mama, one would think you knocked me up."
"Okay, what should I call you, are you not the mother of my baby?" He chuckled. "I don't know, whatever." "It seems my chicken is about to hatch our chick is that why you are so touchy yeah, tell me what you want, anything."
"I thought we had an agreement concerning that name?" She clipped his collar, making him lean slightly on her, she inched higher looking into his captivating eyes and kissed his eyelids, his nose, and then placed a lingering kiss on his lips. She pulled away slowly.
"Happy first Irfan, I got you something." She opened a drawer from her dressing mirror and presented him with a small box.He was astonished when he saw it, inside the box were different pictures of them, that was used to wrap the inner part of the box, two matching wedding bands.
His eyes fluttered with love when Nasreen presented it to him. "I love it, Nas this is so beautiful." He exhaled deeply. "And all I got you was this." He said impatiently like a new lover, bringing it out from his pocket. It was a gold necklace that was half heart-shaped. He felt the gift was not enough.
"No, it is perfect IR I love it." She stood up and engulfed him in a warm hug.
"Where is the other half of the necklace?" Irfan let out a sly smile, he brought her hand to the left part of his chest and placed it there. "It is here my love."Nasreen felt his rapid heartbeat. "Feel it, Nas, it beats only for you, Nasreen, only you, the magnitude of my love can never be compared to anything in this world saheeba." Nasreen's heart had melted already, she couldn't measure how much love her heart could contain for this man, she hugged him this time around even more tight. "And I love you too Irfan, words won't be in comparison to how much I love you, and how much you mean to me. may Allah continue illuminating our love, may this year bring us more laughter, more joy and every happiness in this world Irfan, I will always be by your side, till death do us apart, I promise." She pecked his cheek.
He rubbed their noses together and pressed a warm kiss on her forehead and then her lips, their little moment was cut short when the overly enthusiastic Afrah, Amal, Hanan, Janan, Ihsan, Najmin and the rest of them screamed her name.
