guardian angel

[*trigger warning*]

a girl, feeling ever so lonely
feeling like no one is there
feeling like no one would understand
feeling like she can't talk to anyone
feeling hopeless, soulless, dead

no one had ever seen her
cry herself to sleep
sobbing all alone in the dark

all people saw
was the mask of laughter and smiles
hiding her gnawing pain in her heart

she stared at the dark night sky
sitting and letting the cool breeze
play with her hair
as she toyed with her life
legs dangling down the ledge

she never believed in miracles
but then, one happened
right when she needed it most.

it was something... extraordinary
she didn't know who it was
who that gentle voice belonged to
but she heard it

'look back and think:
you've gone through so much
survived so many hardships
and for you to still be here
to still be on this planet,
that itself, my dear,
is one of the most
courageous things a person can ever do.'

'i'm proud of you.
of how far you've come
of how you're still not willing
to lose all hope
you're still here
no matter how many times
you wanted to give up
you didn't.'

'i wont promise
things will be better.
but i promise,
that i'll be your listening ear
no matter what,
okay?'
...
looking back on that day
the girl, now a graduate
was grateful for that voice
that pulled her off that ledge
and to her bed
for her to sleep that day away.

she'd always be thankful
for that guardian angel
that saved her that day.
