The reaping

When I wake up on Saturday, I spend pretty much the entire day getting me and Joey ready. It's almost 2, and I'm rushing to hide my knives in my dress, but I end up just having one in my bag.
I walk into the town square with Joey, and I'm shaking as I find the rest of my age group. I try to find Cato, but I'm too short to see over the guys behind me.
Just then the district two escort, aqua, comes on stage. She does the same speech as everyone, every year.
"Now to the exciting part," yeah sure, getting picked to die is so exciting. "Ladies first!" She walks over to the bowl with the girls names, and then she picks one name, walks back over to the microphone, she reads out, "Clove Sevina." I slowly walk on stage, in shock.

As soon as I hear that name I almost fall to the ground. I start to tear up, but I stop myself. I can't look weak on camera.
As soon as she reads the boys name, I break my promise.
"I VOLUNTEER" Is the first thing that comes out of my mouth. I can't let her go in alone. I know that I'm supposed to watch her brother, but maybe he can go live with his friend. And it's already too late. I'm already on stage. Instead of shaking her hand, I wanted to kiss her. Badly. But I didn't want to ruin our chances. Our love could be healed against us, so until we find out what our plan is, I'm going to make sure we don't show affection on camera.
Cloves pov
My first visitor is Joey. As soon as he walks in I hug him. I hold on to him for about as long as I can and then I start to tell him, "If either me or Cato win, we can take care of you. But just incase we don't, ask Billie if his mom can take you in. I will try my best. I promise." I want to cry, but I there will be cameras before we get on the train. I hug him one more time and kiss his forehead before he gets dragged away. I don't expect anyone else, so I sit down on the couch. The doorknob turns and as soon as it opens I run up and hug him. It feels like the first time I've ever hugged him. I love being pressed against him, because I'm short enough so that my ear is pressed against his chest.
I pull away and I don't bother asking him why he would break his promise. I would too. I wouldn't be able to live without him. I kiss him and say "See you in the car." He walks out, and then the peacekeepers bring the both of us into a car, we're on our way to the train station, and Aqua is telling us about what we are going to get in the next few days.
