A change of heart.....
Jenna awoke to loneliness in the room, Colin had left for an early meeting. Jenna sat up wiping the sleep from her eyes she noticed a note left on the nightstand she read it out loud. "Jenna," It started, "I can't stop you from loving her, it hurts me to my core to admit it, it was selfish of me not to see how unhappy you've been, as I write this, I watch you sleep, so sweet and beautiful, how will we tell our families? I was wrong about my colleagues and I can't blame you for not caring, I don't want to cage you like a bird, I won't, it would break my heart, the years we've spent together, the promises we've made to one another, I will love you forever," Jenna lowered her head crumpling the note in her hand. She showered and dressed bundling up for a walk along the bay.
The slight waves rustled against the shoreline as Jenna walked along it her thoughts on Sasha and Colin she found an old bench and sat down, the cold sun bathed her face as a tear streamed down her cheek, "He's safe and can forgive me," She worded to herself in a murmur, "But she mystifies me in a way I've never experienced before and I'm very much in love with her," She contemplated aloud. She lowered her face into her palms, "Mind if I join you?" Colin asked startling her. Colin could see she had been crying, "I read your note," She swallowed hard. "I'm sorry," He replied eying her.
"No need to apologize, we should have talked and communicated things long before this," He pursed his lips listening to her, "Your right we should've, I knew something wasn't quite right long before Sasha entered the picture," He explained kindly. "You didn't know and couldn't have changed it," She remarked firmly, "I love another, it's heartbreaking for us both, I made a commitment to you and I broke your trust," She relaxed knowing she needed to get things out and in the open. "I blame a lot of it on myself Jenna, I've spent so much time trying to get ahead of the game, I left you hanging, not knowing my true motives, there's never been another, just my work," She interjected, "Which you're also married to," He couldn't help but chuckle at her comment.
"If I thought there was a chance, a tiny sparked that remained," Colin mused solemnly, "Then," Jenna touched his arm stopping him, "You made idle threats to me," She calmly complained, "It was painful, I hurt because I hurt you," Colin shuttered with a sigh, "I know what I did was wrong, I only wanted to build a future for us, I wanted you to be happy, feel free, I know how much your work means to you, I never meant to threaten you, I was devastated," He rehearsed sadly. "But you can't undo them Colin," She warned, Colin laid his head back staring at the sky, "What we have is good, don't throw it away Jenna," He got up and walked off leaving her to sort out his pleas.
Jenna watched him walk away, but all she could think about was Sasha she missed her. "God, what a mess I've created, how could I hurt the man I once loved?" She questioned herself in tears. Sasha front and center in her mind she needed to to talk to her, though she hadn't bothered to answer the numerous text and calls Sasha had made. Jenna pulled her cell phone from her coat pocket reading them, there were many, too many to count. "What if I've hurt her so badly she won't take me back?" Jenna pondered in a shiver.
Sasha walked the property wishing the reflection she saw in the creek wasn't hers, but Jenna's, "How I've missed you, where are you?" She cried, "Ms. Addison," Jose called out, "Oh, yes," She quickly answered startled by him, "I'm through for the day, I've fed the chickens, the mare is in her stall and I've left apples on the table," He remarked leaving. Sasha wondered up to the road, another look to the farm across the road, much to her surprise she saw a set of taillights in the driveway, the sun quickly sinking into the darkness as she awaited a call.
Colin stood in front of the mirror tying is necktie, "Hey," He caught a glimpse of Jenna standing in the doorway. "I brought you coffee," It was a peace offering, "Thank you," He took it from her. "I know I can't stop you from seeing her," He walked to the window looking out at the farm across the way and then back to her, "I'm willing to forgive and forget if you could just see, we are meant to be together, you loved me once, maybe you could see it in your heart," He walked back towards her she felt cold and bemused. "Jenna," He spoke her name again getting her attention. "I have work Colin," She fled downstairs.
