"Do you wanna just go back to my place, or food first?"
"Well, that depends on what we'll be doing at your place," Awsten winked at me. "Also on what food we'd be getting." I laughed.
"How about Village Inn? They've got great pie. And other stuff, but like. Pie."
"I'm cool with that," He smiled. "I love pie." I glanced at him suspiciously.
"No, you don't," I countered. "You've told me before that you don't like it."
"Chicken Pot Pie and Shepherd's Pie are disgusting, but most other pie I like."
"Are you only saying you like it so I feel better about eating?" I looked over at my boyfriend, who was very obviously trying not to look at me. Eventually he sighed.
"Yeah." He looked up at me with puppy dog eyes. "Is it working?"
"Hell yeah it is." I grinned, heading to the restaurant.
We pulled into the parking lot and Awsten rushed out of the car to get the door for me.
"You dork, I can open the door myself," I grinned at him, and he shrugged.
"You seen to have stories about all the other places here, so any stories about this place?" he asked.
"Actually yeah. When I did theatre in high school, we'd always come here after every opening night. Every single one. In full makeup. Imagine working somewhere and it's like nine thirty, you just wanna go home, and suddenly you just see a group of teenagers approaching. They come closer and you can see that they all have a face that's like, 2 shades darker than the rest of them. And then they don't leave until eleven." I explained.
"That sounds like a waiter's nightmare."
"I've worked as a waiter before. Believe me, it is." He laughed.
We got seated in a booth, ordered and chatted for a while until we got our food. I actually had an appetite, for once, and I had two whole slices of pie before I was full.
"You're so hungry!" I laughed. Awsten was halfway through his third slice, looking up at me with crumbs all over his face. He laughed, wiping his face with a napkin before calling over a waitress.
"Excuse me, but could I get a to go box?" He asked politely.
"Yeah, you can pick one up at the counter," She smiled, and walked away to serve another table.
"I'll be right back," he said.
I sat in the booth, waiting, when I saw someone standing by the booth.
"Hey Aws, you ready to-" I looked up to see not Awsten, but my father. The smile fell off my face as I got up to push past him, but he grabbed my wrist.
"What, you don't want to talk to your dear old dad?" I yanked my arm away and kept walking to the counter.
"C'mon, you won't even give me a chance? I've changed, I promise!" He said. I whipped around to point at him.
"No, you haven't. You say that every time, and it's always a lie. Just stay away from me and mom." I felt tears welling up as a protective arm wrapped around my waist. Awsten.
"I paid too, we're good to go. What's going on here?"
"Don't believe we've met. I'm Scott, and Sadie there is my daughter." My father held out his hand to Awsten. Awsten looked at his hand and did nothing.
"I think I heard them tell you to stay away from them." He pulled me closer to him. "C'mon babe, let's go." He led me away from my father and out into the parking lot, ignoring the protests from behind. We got into the car.
"Are you okay?" He took my hand and squeezed.
"I hate him," I cried, "I hate him so much and he keeps coming back, I don't know how to make him leave me alone," I buried my face in my hands and sobbed. Awsten wrapped his arms around me as I cried.
"It's okay, it's all okay. I've got you." he whispered, and rubbed circles on my back. "If he comes back, just tell me and I'll... I dunno what I'll do. But it'll be good, I promise." he kissed my forehead.
I laughed. "God, I love you so much," He pulled out of the hug to kiss me.
"I love you too," He beamed.
