Chapter 21

Shawn sat frozen in shock and fear.

It couldn't be. Hoesaeg couldn't be alive. He felt that he was gone. But yet, he was back.

Jihyuk shook Shawn's shoulders, getting seriously worried for the boy. ''Shawn-ah! What's wrong?! Talk to me!'' he started panicking.

Shawn suddenly came back to his senses and his eyes widened comically.

''H-Hyung...'' he whispered shakily.

Jihyuk sighed in relief. ''Thank Goddess you're okay. What happened?''

''Hyung, I- Could you ask your wolf if he feels any different?'' the younger boy looked at him with hope, and Jiyhuk - still not understanding a thing that was happening - nodded.

''Chan? Is anything up?''  he asked in his mind and felt the wolf nod furiously.

''Yes! You-you won't believe it but-but I can feel Hoesaeg again!'' Chanyoung yipped, out of his mind with happiness.

Jihyuk on the other side, was left dumbfounded. He locked eyes with Shawn's own shocked ones and nodded. Shawn's heart jumped and he dared to have hope. So he shifted a little to be more comfortable in Jihyuk's lap and cleared his throat.

''H-Hoesaeg?''  Shawn could hear the question echo in his mind. After a minute of silence, a warm chuckle came as a reply.

''The one and only.''  Hoesaeg cheekily said, his chest puffing up and his eyes glimmering teasingly. 

Shawn's jaw fell open. ''But how? You-you died! I felt it!''  he stated shakily.

Hoesaeg sighed and sat down. ''Well. When we were around fourteen, I figured out that our real mate wasn't in the U.S. with us. After that, it took me a few months to figure out that it was Jihyuk, well, Chanyoung for me. Years past and with the abuse and everything I knew that I couldn't tell you just like that. But when that day came, and I felt the pull towards Jay, I was super confused. But when it didn't feel strong as a real bond, I knew that Kayden was our substitute mate. It was him because he was the first person we saw after we landed back in America. Remember? Him and his parents came to pick us up at the airport.''  after Hoesaeg finished talking, Shawn thought back to the moment, and indeed, Kayden was there. He ran towards Zack and gave him a tight hug.

''Wait. Who's Jay?'' Shawn asked. His wolf blinked sadly. ''Kayden's wolf. Remember him? He talked to us sometimes.''

Shawn thought for a quick minute and nodded. ''Oh, that Jay. Yes, I remember him. He was very kind to us.''

Hoesaeg closed his eyes. ''We talked often while you were asleep too. He really is a kind wolf. But I couldn't tell him anything and it made me sad. I hope that he is okay.''

Shawn was still confused. ''But you died anyway? Why?'' 

Hoesaeg huffed. ''I made it a little over the top. I couldn't really die because Kayden isn't our real mate, but it still hurt like hell. I needed to be away until you made a first connection with our real mate.''

''I'm so happy that you're back Hoesaeg. If you ever try to leave me again, I swear i will whoop your furry ass  all the way to Seoul.'' Shawn threatened but smiled, feeling full again.

Hoesaeg grinned a wolfish smile. ''Yes sir.'' he joked. ''We should go run later, you need your senses back. I also very greedily miss Chanyoung soo... It fits together nicely. You should also feel the mate pull yourself now. See you later.'' the wolf reminded him, winked and layed down to sleep.
