Zak moved into Darryl's apartment later that week, and got a job at the coffee shop the boys met at just mere days ago so that he could afford to help pay rent.
Ms. Kay was under the impression that Zak had moved back into his mom's house when he left, but Darryl came clean to her and he doesn't think that she will ever forgive him. That said, she still loves him as a mother should to his son.
Vincent and Zak's friendship didn't fade, even after Vince left for college. The boys called each other every day just to talk.
Zak and Darryl began to eat lunch with Carter, as he and the younger had begun close while he was sleeping on their couch.
Zak stayed after class to talk to Mr. Schumacher every day, almost acting as his personal therapist.
Zak and Darryl went to prom together; Darryl started at Community College, keeping him in town and he and Zak continued to live with each other. Zak and Darryl spent every possible second with each other.
