Chapter 2: Limited Options

Orange Star City, once a vast land of buildings and friendly people, was in ruins. No. I sunk down to my knees.

Damn! If only I had learned instant transmission, like my mother and uncle.

I shook my head.

This can't keep happening. Why can't I get here quicker? Why is there no way to keep these innocent lives safe? Where's Gohan?!

"GOHAN!" I screamed. No answer.

Is he? Could he have? No.

I quickly dismissed what I was thinking.

"Hey!" I turned at the call.

He isn't. Good.

There he stood in his orange and blue gi, about 50 feet away. I flew over to where he stood. The saiyan looked down. "I don't know how much longer I can bare the sight of these demolished homes and lifeless bodies. I want them dead. This isn't fair."

His jaw and fists clenched. "I want to fight!"

Is this boy out of his mind? How dare he suggest such a thing. I won't let him die!

"Gohan. You're mother-"

"Wouldn't approve." he finished. "I know."

"What you're talking about is dangerous. We shouldn't."

"I'm not telling you to do anything. I'll fight and you can stay where it's safe"

"Stop!"

Gohan have me a confused look. "Stop what, Cheri?"

"This. Stop treating me like a child. I don't need you're protection. You may be older but it doesn't mean you have to shield me from the world we're both living in!"

I felt bad for snapping at him, but I just hated this feeling of everyone thinking I couldn't handle something.

"Cheri... I didn't say-"

"Help! Please!" A frail voice called from the distance cutting off our conversation.

Oh that's right, we're here to save people. I forgot. This conversation just got so heated.

We spent about 2 hours scouting the city for survivors. Many were unconscious. We found 2 orphans. A girl and her father too.

We brought several surviving citizens to a shelter in South City. I wish there was more we could do. Fighting is something I want to do so badly... But if I died. No, I can't. I can't leave Hope. She's too young she lost enough of her family. Enough of our family.

Mother. Yamcha. Goku... I can't let Gohan leave us too.

Gohan and I were on our ways home after dropping some survivors off at shelters.

"You know that wasn't what I meant, Cheri, right?" My cousin asked, referring to my earlier accusation.

"... Fine. I know you didn't, Gohan. It's just... we can't afford to die right now. There's too many people we'd leave behind-"

"Hold up. What makes you think we'll die?"

"Gohan, we can't even transform into super saiyans."

"We've never fought them before though."

"We can't feel their power levels. They managed to kill off all the Z Fighters, some of the most powerful fighters in this universe."

"Then we'll become super saiyans."
