Chapter 13: Sight

Three Years Later, July Age 783

I stretched my arms and opened my mouth to let out a lengthy yawn. My body was very sore from training so much with Trunks lately.

After years of Bulma and I convincing him that the time machine could work, he still insists upon training enough to battle the androids. One of these days he is going to do something really, really dumb.

I really don't know what to do with that boy anymore.

I heard little footsteps come my way.

Valor, I thought, my toddler nephew. I heard him trying hopelessly to say my name.

"H-Hop. Hop. Hop." I shook my head and picked him up.

"No no no, say 'Hope'. Hooooooppee."

"Hop." I rolled my eyes and carried him on my hip downstairs. While walking he shouted and pointed. "Daddy!" and waved his little hand. "Hi!"

Zen walked up as I reached the bottom of the staircase and picked up his son.

"Hi Valor! I see you woke up your Auntie Hope!" Valor wiggled out of his grip and ran off. Zen told me that Amai had a surprise before he ran off to his son.

I poured myself a bowl of cereal with milk.

"Oh Hope darling!" I heard Amai sing her way over to the counter. "I was over with Bulma earlier and she has something she has been working on for a while now." She enthusiastically informed me.

"Well, hold out your hand!" I held it out like she told me to and she placed a small jar into my hand.

Eye-drops.

"Bulma said-no. I don't want to spoil it!" She let out a squeal of excitement.

"Well you do it often. Nice to see you're actually trying not to now." Amai giggled like a little girl after my rather truthful remark.

I walked outside and sat on the hammock, taking in the fresh breeze, and staring at the gray sky.

Carefully, I opened the bottle and squeezed a drop into each of my eyes. My body leaned back and I rested a bit. After a minute, my heart skipped a beat.

What is this?

The sky before me was morphing.

It's color. It's the color of a sky. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I couldn't believe I was seeing color! I looked up and realized I was seeing swirls pig different shades.

I crawled to the tree holding the hammock up and examined it. It was a dark, warm color. Like hot cocoa.

The tree, it's brown. This it's insane!

I couldn't believe this was color.
I marveled at this whole new world, this door opened to a new perspective and embraced it.

People got the incredible chance to see these hues everyday and take it for granted. Now I can see them too. I knew exactly where I wanted to go right now. The field.

I made my way through the city watching the view around me, not enjoying it too much. For the first time I saw the warm color of blood puff those affected by the androids.

There were many people outside a shelter with mournful expressions across their faces, nothing like the positive looks on Cheri and Gohan's faces in my colorful dream.

Their eyes focused on me and my dreary stroll. I started noticing more trees surrounding me in color.

Was this the field Trunks and I had always trained at? It was a large field of green grass surrounded by a vast forest of green and brown trees. I shut my eyes and rolled only the grass.

This was it alright.

I opened my eyes and stared at the sky. It wasn't blue like my sister's once blue eyes like in my dream which was unfortunate.

I rolled and stopped on my stomach and on my elbows when I came across something it my face. I shut my eyes for a moment and lightly touched it.

It's lavender, a lavender flower. It was the first shade of purple I'd ever seen.

What other colors can I see?

Then it hit me: the animals. I rose and sprinted into the forest, from time to time tripping after being distracted by the magnificent images.

Maybe I'll come across a deer in color, I thought. I had spoken a bit too soon. There it was, a warm shade of brown with white spots scattered all over. Its wide doe eyes stared at me.

It's stance was ready for it to take off, but it didn't! I stood in awe. One in the distance moved gracefully as it saw me and ran away.

But this one, it approached me as if it knew me. I slowly crouched down and it froze in fear of it running from me.

I ripped some grass from the ground and held it out for the deer. After staring as if it were uncertain, it came forward and nibbled off the grass in my hand. It had a little pink tongue.

The deer looked weak and fragile in a moment, trusting me as it before seemed so unsure.

It stopped. I glanced down to see there wasn't any more grass. Its tongue came up, licked my cheek, and I watched it trot away.

If only Trunks had been here to see this! Wait, where is Trunks? Weren't we supposed to train today after he brought some parts in for his mother?

I took a look around. I hadn't felt his power anywhere.

He must've forgotten, which isn't like him at all. Or maybe he is actually helping his mother, despite him saying the time machine was useless. I just don't know. I guess its time to investigate.

I found Bulma at Capsule Corp. with a worried look upon her face.

"Hello Bulma, hows the time machine going?" She jumped and stared for a moment.

"Oh, hello Hope! Its nice to see you around here. It's going great. I think within the month we'll be able to travel back!" She suddenly looked down. I knew that wasn't a happy face.

"Um Bulma? Are you alright?" I walked up closer. She shook her head and her eyes were closed.

"No, its Trunks." I already knew what here next words were. "He left to fight the androids." She paused.

"I have to go, I have to save him!"

"Bulma that's crazy talk." I grasped her hand. "I'll bring your son back. I promise." She nodded once. I finally saw the color blue in her eyes, get hair too. Her eyes glistened like diamonds. I ran off to find Trunks.

"Be careful, Hope!"

I nodded and was on my way.

You better be alive, Trunks. You better survive.
