Chapter 11: The Horrid Truth

For the past few hours, all I've felt was despair. Usually after the death off someone close or after witnessing a gruesome death, I'd sleep in Cheri's bed or Cheri would sleep in mine. Now, I was going to be left to toss the sheets and cry alone.

She and Gohan had taken a great risk and fought the androids, resulting in their lives being taken. I was exhausted but couldn't shut my eyes.

After my outburst of rage for the androids and their ruthless behavior, I powered down from just becoming a super saiyan and once again began to cry. I couln't move.

I felt a deep anguish and Trunks picked me up and brought me home. The closer we got home, the more it began to rain again.

I wasn't even exhausted physically, really. I guess what my real exhaustion enviously. All this fear, anger, hope, and sorrow had left me emotionally numb.

I just came take this. Children wearing useless bulletproof vests and becoming orphans, parents finding the safest and unharmed cities to live in this world but them and their families being massacred anyway, and attending funerals at least every week. Most of all I was undoubtedly exhausted with this tormenting hell.

I laid in bed and thought about how I had no biological family remaining. Buruto and Amai just happened to be adopted by the same wealthy parents as my mother did when she arrived to Earth as an odd infant with a tail.

Chi Chi was just the wife of my deceased uncle, Goku.

Zen was the significant other of my sister, Charity. I'm the last of my bloodline.

Then I remembered my 3-month-old nephew, Valor.

How will I tell Zen?

Knock knock.

"Hope?" Amai called from the other side of the door and burst in. "Hope! You were gone for hours! Why were you gone from..." Her hair swayed as she checked the clock on the wall.

"From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.?! I was terrified and Buruto and I looked all over. We called Bulma, we called the shelters, we did everything."

Buruto must've heard all the commotion upstairs, poked his head in, and sat on my bed with Amai.

"Thank goodness you're home, Hope. Where have you been?" He asked interested.

"... I'm s-sorry." I whimpered. Amai's furious face softened. "Hope I'm not really mad I-I was just scared." Her light hand came up to my face and wiped away a tear.

"It's not-it's not... No." It was hard. It was so hard. "C-Cheri..."

"What? Where has Cheri been?"

I refused to look her in the eye.

"...No. It can't be. Hope?" My aunt was suddenly realized and put a hand over her heart. I could hear Buruto gasp. They both embraced me without the slightest hesitation

"I'm sorry. T-The androids. They, they took them from us."

Valor became fussy sitting on my lap. He shook and whimpered. I put him over my back and patted his shoulder and the baby let out a burp. Valor was quiet after that. All smiles and giggles.

Zen wasn't here, how odd. It was 4 in the morning, where else would he be?

"Hello? Zen?"

"Cheri?!" His voice called from behind.
