Chapter 4: Foreign Feelings

It soon became the end of November and I planned to have a feast with the remaining members of the Son family. My birthday was exactly a week away; On December 1st. It'd be turning 13 real soon.

Weather is wild here in Heiwana City. Summer days will fry you and you could get frost bite on winter nights. Snow would soon fall and sick to the ground. That day has always fallen on my birthday.

"How much longer, Cheri?" Hope called from afar. She got on her tip toes to be eye level with the counter as I chopped some carrots and ginger with Amai early in the morning.

"Hold up a little longer, we've got some more stuff to gather. There might be a change of plans."

"W-wait what? It better not take longer because I really want to eat!" She whined.

I thought to myself for a bit. I really didn't feel good about just us being at this feast. Since the death of the Z Fighters, everything has felt like less.

I had the idea to go to a shelter and bring meals for everyone, though I didn't check my idea with anyone. Gohan really had some interest in going to the one in the remains of South City. I can recall our conversation.

"I don't know. I just want to do something more for them. Orange Star City was a really populated city, right? We barely saved a handful to bring to South City. Why not? Just this once, Cheri."

This kid really is good at swaying me over. He hasn't begged in a while.

"Fine. I'll let the others know. I'll get done extra food. You'll have to bring some extras too, okay?"

He excitedly agreed and promised to not let me down. A sigh escaped me as I hung up.

Now I've gotten the memo passed into Amai and Buruto. Hope on the other hand ...

"Cheriii. Are you done now?"

"Almost." She turned to leave but I stopped her. "Hold up, we're not going to Gohan's house anymore.

The little girl's green eyes became visible as she turned back around and made eye contact. "What do you mean? Are we staying home? Is auntie Chi-Chi hurt?"

"Hold your horses. No one in the family is hurt, at least I hope not. We're planning on having the feast at a shelter and help them. Maybe you'll make new friends too."

Hope looked down. "Will Trunks be there?" She mumbled.

"...Hope. I don't know. But you should really try to make friends."

"But I'm too scared to. Could you please invite Trunks?"

Oh I give up.

"I'll do my best, Hope. I don't know if they have any other plans today."

She ran up and hugged me. "Thank you."

Hope is having a lot of trouble making other friends. It's worrying me. She only wants to hang out with Trunks. I wonder if he has the problem too.

While I made sure the Briefs' were coming Hope hugged a plush bull toy while humming a cute little tune. She skipped over in a bright green gi, contrasting with her dark olive green eyes.

"Aren't you going to get dressed?"

"Ew, I just want to wear a gi."

"Well I picked out a dress for you. Its on your bed upstairs."

"But dresses are uncomfortable." I gave her a long cold look and she realized from the silence that I didn't want to fight about it. "Fine." And she stomped upstairs.
