I had been in the maze for almost 6 months now, keeping track by how many new greenies we got. I was the only girl.
I had taken quite a liking to Newt, the tall, slender second in command. He was very attractive.
"Newt, what's in the box?" I ask.
I shiver because of the cold.
"Decorations I assume. I'm sure Alby can give us all the next 2 days off." Newt says.
"For what?" I ask.
"I dunno. Appears to be a winter holiday called Christmas. There's hit chocolate and gifts and decorated trees and such." He explains.
"Hmm, sounds interesting." I say.
"There's also a plant called mistletoe that you hang in the doorway. And if you end up under it with someone else you have to kiss them." Newt says.
"This whole Christmas holiday sounds exciting." I say.
"Yeah. Since we're both track hoes we should be decorating together. You know, split up by job." He suggests.
"I'll go get Alby." I say.
"Thanks love." Newt says.
Love? That's new.
I shrug it off and run across the Glade to find Alby.
"Alby! Newt needs you. He's over by the box." I explain.
"Alright. Lets go see what Newt needs now." Alby says.
I giggle and we both jog over to where Newt is, standing by the box, trying to figure it all out.
"Newt what's up?" Alby asks.
I sit patiently as Newt explains the situation to Alby.
Alby occasionally nods or hums in agreement.
"Yeah. I think you have a good point. We can all start decorating once the runner's get back, should be soon. Then we can have the next 2 days off." Alby says.
"Sounds good." I say.
"(Y/N), mind helping me sort decorations into groups for everyone?" Newt asks as Alby goes to check on everyone.
"Of course." I say.
He sits on the grass and I sit next to him and we start pulling things out.
"I think we should give the string lights to the builders." I suggest.
"Yeah, sounds like a plan." Newt agrees.
We work on seperating everything until Newt pulls out a notepad.
"Okay, so builders get the string lights, track hoes get the indoor decorations including the indoor tree, slicers can get the tree in the middle of the Glade, and the runners can take care of the outdoor decorations that aren't the lights." Newt rambles, writing everything down.
"Sounds perfect. Alright let's go get everyone." I say.
We walk to the lunch area where Alby has called everyone to.
"Alright. Here's all your jobs." Newt starts.
-
"Okay, let's get moving." Newt yells.
"Okay Newt. So, do you wanna start with the tree in here while everyone else does the wall decorations?" I also him.
He nods.
We start to join the peices of the fake tree together so it forms a real looking tree.
"Looks wonderful." Newt says.
I hum in agreement.
"Newt, I like the colors we have." I say, motioning twords the ornaments.
"Yeah. They're quite lovely." He responds.
They were a mix of blue shades and white.
"Wanna put the star on top?" He asks.
"Yeah. But I can't reach." I complain.
"Hop in my back." He says, crouching down.
"Newt, your ankle. That's gonna be your weight plus mine." I say.
He told me about the incident a while ago.
"I'll be alright. Come on then." He says.
"I just don't wanna hurt you." I sigh.
I hop into his back gently trying to not put pressure on him. I was really worried.
I set the star on the top.
"Almost done?" Newt asks.
I can tell he's in pain.
"Done." I say.
He sets me down and turns to look at me, wincing a bit.
"Newt!" I scold. "I told you it would be too much on your ankle."
He looks down.
"I'm alright love. Just hurt for a second." He says. "Wanna go finish up by hanging the mistletoe?"
"Yeah, let's do it." I smile at him.
He pulls it out of his pocket and uses a small pin to stick it to the doorway.
"Perfect." I say.
"Umm."
"What's up Newt?" I ask.
"Well, we're kind of, under it..." He trails off.
"Does this mean we have to kiss?" I ask.
"I guess so." He says.
He blushed a little bit.
"A little peck on the lips never hurt anyone." I say.
I stand on my tippy toes and quickly place a quick kiss to his lips.
"Alright. Let's get going shall we?" I ask.
We link arms and step outside to see the Glade decorated.
"Looks wonderful. We're having a Christmas Eve bonfire tonight." Newt explains.
"Sounds fun." I say.
We see that most of the boys are already at the fire, and Newt and I sit in our usual spot under the tree.
I look up.
And I see it.
Mistletoe.
"Newt, umm, look up." I say.
He notices it too.
He shakes his head and laughs a bit.
"I'm gonna get Minho next time I see him." He says.
"Why?" I ask.
"I know he put it there. He knows we sit here." Newt says.
I kiss him quickly once again.
"A rule is a rule." I say.
We both laugh and sit in silence the rest of the night.
"Newt, can you walk me back to my room? I'm getting tired." I say. "You can stay the night if you want. There's a spare bed."
"Yeah. Let's go." He grabs my hand and we walk to my room.
"You've got to be shucking kidding me." He sighs as we reach my doorway.
"What?" I ask.
"Mistletoe. Again." He says.
"It's alright. I don't mind kissing you." I say.
"Can I tell you something?" Newt asks.
"Of course."
"I know why Minho put it there." He says.
"I do too." I say.
"What?" He asks.
"It's because I like you." We say at the same time.
"What?" I ask, shocked.
"Uhh, yeah." He says.
I put my hands in his hair and pull his head down so I can kiss him. As I do this his hands go to my waist and we kiss. There under the mistletoe.
We pull away.
"Newt, you don't have to sleep in the spare bed. You can cuddle with me." I suggest.
"Sounds wonderful."
