November 28 7:00; Ashley
"No, no, no!" Marlene shrieks as she stops the music.
I roll my eyes once again in annoyance since that move of hers struck once again. She has really been getting on my nerves this evening.
"You are supposed to do a triple turn into those jump things! Not one!"
It's like she doesn't even know what she's doing.
"Marlene, do you mean a leap instead of that 'Jump thing'?" Kassie says crossing her arms.
"Kassie, you don't even belong on this dance routine." Marlene rolls her eyes.
"Marlene, you don't even belong in this studio in general." Kassie says walking closer to her.
"Your attitude, is out of place. Fix it before I kick you out of this routine." She points her finger at Marlene.
"You'll kick me out?" She scoffs and laughs dryly. "Haven't you noticed, but I'm the best one here." Marlene says walking closer to Kassie. "You need me."
"Not exactly. Ashley is actually the best student in the entire studio. She actually has a spot in the company. And guess what? You don't. And we don't need you. Ashley knows all of the spots in this routine already. So if you don't want her to take your spot, I highly recommend you tone it down and actually let the person who made this dance clean it up." Kassie says.
Kassie actually isn't a bad dancer. She's pretty good, but mostly in hip- hop. She's the one who created the dance that Marlene is dancing to, but she taught it to Mrs. Alicia and Mrs. Alicia taught it to them.
"You know what? Fine." Marlene says and walks all the way to the back of the room and folds her arms stubbornly as she forces her body down onto one of the chairs.
"Thank you. God she was beginning to irritate the crap out of me." I whisper to Kassie.
"No problem. But the only problem we have is that we need an understudy for our routine." Kassie whispers back to me right when the music started.
"Wait, what do you mean?" I ask.
"Well, our only understudy had a little family emergency and can't be with us for the entire 2 weeks that we need him for." She sighs.
"But understudies are just an option." I say to her.
"But you see, everyone in this studio who competes always gets hurt the day before so we always need an understudy." Kassie sighs once again.
What and understudy is, is a person who knows everyone's place in the dance and all of the choreography for the whole dance. Being an understudy is the hardest job, because you need to know everything in the entire dance. Whenever someone is hurt, or sick, or can't make it for whatever reason, it's the understudy's job to fill in the missing person.
"I can tke that offer." I say to her seriously.
"Are you serious? But you already have so much on your plate. I mean, you have your solo, the understudy for this number also, and the company number. Are you sure?" She asks wit wide eyes.
"Yeah, I'm capable of it. Trust me, I have done a lot more than that." I laugh lightly.
"Are you sure? I'll feel kind of bad if I stress you out with so much choreo. I mean he competition is literally in one week."
"Yes. I got this. it's totally fine. You need an understudy for this." I say reassuring her.
"Okay, Matt's in the upstairs studio. He'll teach it to you." Kassie says sighing in defeat.
