October 4 8:00 ; Matthew

As I waited in the car for Ashley, I turned the ignition on in my car so I can use the heaters. Its kind of cold right now. Its maybe 50 degrees?

I'm just confused about Ashley. Yesterday after I ate dinner with them, her parents asked me to stay a little while longer and talk about something important.

The thing that kept bothering me was that Greg said she had a 'very troubled past.'

I don't get what he meant by 'troubled'.

She could've gotten caught in a lot of drama, She could've been a delinquent, She could've had many family issues.

There are many reasons. Ashley is just a mystery to me that I cannot unravel. Thats why I always hang around her. She has this mysterious personality that I just want to get to know better.

flashback :

"Matt are you leaving so soon?" Jenny asks as I make my last step down the stairs.

"Yeah, My cousin has been texting me non-stop." I say.

It was true actually. Mya kept on texting me and spamming me. most were like 'Why arent you home?' or 'Where are you?'

"Oh, well before you leave. Greg and I need to talk about something to you." Jenny says a tiny bit concerned while gesturing to herself and Greg.

"Okay, take your time" I smile politely

Greg sighs and sits down on the couch.

"Ashley has had a troubled past. Very troubled." Greg says.

"Ashley would often get nightmares and cry herself to sleep." Jenny frowns.

"Ever since we moved here, her presence changed. It's less depressed a little more happy." Jenny says.

"Jenny and I decided that you were the cause of that." Greg finishes.

"During dinner, She laughed for the first time in years. She seemed more happy when you were around." Jenny smiles.

years?

"she changed a lot in the past days ever since she started to go to the same school as you. She's distracted from her past and that's what we need. We just want her to be happy again." Greg says and intertwines his fingers with jenny's.

"So please look after our Ashley. Keep her distracted. Make her smile, laugh, and happy." Jenny frowns.

"Stay with her as much as you can. Protect her. She's fragile. We would ask her brother to do that, but he's at college now." Greg says.

"Okay, I will try my best," I say and give them my best comforting smile.

"Keep doing whatever you are doing now. She really is getting better." Greg says.

Jenny nods in agreement and smiles.

"I will. I promise I won't let her go no matter what." I say honestly.

"Hey! Open the car!" Ashley yells through the window. Her voice was loud but it was still a bit muffled.

I press the button of the child safety lock and Ashley swings the door open.

"What took you so long? I've been waiting for 30 minutes." I say then check the imaginary watch on my wrist.

"Stop overreacting. I have only been gone for 3 minutes. Not 30."
