This story connects with my Hayes fanfiction "what we are", so just keep in mind that it's 2014, so he's 18... Also, sorry if I get you confused a little. Btw, this is unedited, okay now you can read 😬😊
November 9 10:00 ; Hayes
You know that feeling, where you just feel like you're in this type of shock and you can't believe that it's happening?
That is exactly how I feel right now.
I'm just staring at her coffin, trying to convince myself that she isn't here anymore. She was like my second mother, and I always went to her house with Ashley and Nash when we were little. Ashley's parents were always busy with work and it was really sad to see her all by herself a lot.
I don't even know if I should tell Jess about this. I know she'll pity me.
And that is the worst feeling.
'But then she probably won't pity me' I think to myself.
I sink in my seat when Ashley walks up to the podium. She probably has it worse.
Grandma practically raised her, until her parents got into that car accident. I still can't believe destiny's parents got custody instead.
My phone buzzes in my pocket and I quickly got it out and typed in my passcode.
To: haas
From: Jess the mess
Hey, wanna hangout tomorrow? My mom said I could
To: Jess the mess
From: haas
I'm not sure, I'm sorta busy..
To: haas
From: Jess the mess
Aww. Well text me if you change your mind. I'm always available.
I frown at Jess's text message. 'Always available.' She probably never gets invited to things.
I sigh once again and slyly slide my phone back in my pocket just as Ashley finishes.
Once the funeral was over, I felt numbness in my body. I couldn't even bare to go to that funeral, until Nash swore at me and threw a pillow at my face and told me I was a douche bag for not even trying to go. I couldn't even sleep tonight, and Nash was I don't even know where actually. Probably late night swimming.
I was tossing and turning and kicking my blanket everywhere until I came to the conclusion that I am getting nowhere with just staring at the ceiling, just waiting for my eyes to get heavy.
I swiftly swing my legs over the edge of the bed and step on the fuzzy carpet beneath me. I open the door to my room.
"Ashley?" I ask while knocking the door
"Come in."
"Hi." I say and open the door halfway.
"Hi Hayes. Whats wrong?" she asks furrowing her eyebrows.
"I- I can't sleep." I say then feel embarrassed to be approaching my younger cousin about this.
"Not a problem, go back to your room and I'll be there okay?" She smiles.
I was shocked to see Ashley smile, for the first time in years. Especially during this time.
"Anything wrong?" she asks while her smile fades slightly
"No, I'll go to my room." I sigh and walk away.
I close the door behind me and walk back to my room and climb into my bed. I waited there for at least 5 minutes at the max until I heard a knock.
