“So Lila’s here, did you not know about it?” Harry asked me later in the kitchen. I’d stuck back there to refill my drink, he must have followed. I turned around to face him, his face was pale and his eyes were filled with worry. I did feel sorry for him slightly.

“I didn’t know I swear. Louis might have but I doubt he would have kept it a secret from you. You’re closer than that.” I pointed out. He sighed and started pouring himself his own drink, this one wasn’t kid friendly though.

“It’s just really awkward.” He complained and couldn’t stand still in place.

“I’m sorry Harry. She just wanted to see the boys, I’m sure Bec doesn’t mind.”

“Do you think she knows about us? How we used to date?” he asked shocked, I didn’t know how to answer. I mean it’s not like the media didn’t love Harry, the whole world would have known about every single woman he’d ever talked to just about. It was more than likely that his new girlfriend knew all about him and Lila, and even him and I.

“You’ll be fine, Lila lives in another Country, she won’t be around here forever and she knows that so just relax and don’t drink too much I was kind of hoping that the boys first birthday wouldn’t be too dramatic.” I winked and he gave me a small smile. I knew that he was already starting to calm down which was a start at least.

I walked back into the other room, half the food was already gone, Lola was sitting up on the mat trying her hardest to join in on the game with the boys. It was adorable!

“When I have kids i am so bringing them over here to meet yours, I mean look how cute all three of them are!” Lila loved the whole baby thing, it made me sick to think back to when she thought she was pregnant on my wedding trip. I was glad she’d grown up a little and had a chance to change her opinion.

“That would be great Lila.” I answered her. Harry slipped back into the room, wrapped his arms around my nanny and the pair of them began to talk to each other sweetly. I looked over at Zayn and Marina who were also engaged in a lover’s conversation. Everywhere I looked there was romance. Tamy and Liam, Zayn and Marina, Rebecca with Harry, occasionally Niall and Penny, but not Lila, Louis or I, it seemed Louis was more interested in talking to his friends about the trust fund he’d only just started for when the boys started college, and Lila was so wrapped up in the kids that I couldn’t help but feel alone. It’s not like it was my birthday though so I didn’t kick up a fuss.

“Louis, can I talk to you for a minute?”  I asked him. He looked up from his conversation and gave me a nod. I stood up and walked out of the room and down the hallway. He didn’t follow me at first but he didn’t take too much time to catch up.

“Jay?” he asked and I turned into an empty room.

“Louis what’s going on?” I demanded, his face turned, his eyes darkened, his lips tightened and a frown fell onto his brow.

“What do you mean?” he asked, usually this was the part where I would shrug and say I was imagining things but not this time.

“We haven’t been connecting lately Lou and I’m worried.” I took a step closer towards him, he looked hurt from my comments but didn’t lose his cool.

“I-I-I...Babe we’re fine, I didn’t think anything was wrong” he admitted and dared to look me in my eyes.

“Well there is, I wish I was imagining it but I don’t think I am.” I started but he interrupted before I could continue.

“Is this because of Marie?” he asked.

“No, Lou of course it isn’t!” that was the last thing on my mind.

“What then? I just need to know what’s going on then.” He was frantic. I reached over and patted his tense shoulder in an effort to calm him.

“I don’t know. I just watch as everyone else is moving on with their romances while we look like we don’t even know each other half the time.” He started laughing, and I couldn’t work out why.

“Jay we’ve been married for two years, and been together triple that amount babe, admit it we aren’t in that hands on stage of the relationship anymore. I love you, you love me but our relationship is no longer in the learning stage. We’re a team, we know everything there is to know about each other and nobody thinks for even a second that we aren’t in love. They know we are, I know we are and I’m hoping you do too.” He smiled and pulled me into him.

“Okay.” I whispered unable to say anything else. He leaned down to kiss me, it was a kiss that I hadn’t had in a long time, it was loving and longing, I felt as though there was nothing that could keep us apart. It was tender, it was sweet, it was like we were kissing for the very first time. I felt loved, I felt appreciated. I felt like I was sitting on top of the world and I loved it.

“So I think it’s time our kids got their very first taste of the sinful goodness of birthday cake” Louis said to me as we broke apart.

“I think you must be right.” He took hold of my hand and we made our way quickly into the kitchen to find the cake.
