“We’re going to dress you up all pretty when mummy gets you out of the tub aren’t we?” I asked the boys as they were playing around with the water in their bathtub. Everybody else was downstairs decorating the house for our little party. I’m not one of those celebrity mothers who have a live coverage of her children’s first birthdays, but still I wasn’t going to let this day pass without some sort of grand celebration.
“Ahhh” Connor tried baby talking me which I’d always found cute.
“We are, and all of our friends will be here too.” I told him, his cheeky little smile was ever so adorable; it almost made me cry from being so overwhelmed by all of this.
“Jay are you still in here?” A voice called from outside of the door.
“Yeah come on in!” I called out to whoever it was.
Lottie walked in with a man I’d never seen before.
“This is my fiancé.” She smiled and he took a step in front. He was very good looking, I had to admit she’d done well for herself.
“Hi, welcome to the family.” I greeted him, he smiled grandly and took a look into the tub.
“So these are the famous pair hey?” he asked and I gave him a nod.
“The rebellious nephews you will encounter every Christmas” I joked.
“He’s great with kids.” Lottie praised, which was kind of cute. She was obviously very fond of him. It was so strange seeing her like this but I liked it.
“Nice meeting you.” He finally said after saying hello to the twins.
“You too, I’ll see you downstairs later” I told them and they both left me alone with my two boys once again.

I dressed them both up in matching suits, they couldn’t really walk much yet but I thought they were so adorable when I’d bought them from the store I just couldn’t resist buying them. I dressed Connor up with a tie, and Nick with a bowtie just so we could always tell the difference. I knew them apart, Lou knew them apart heck even Harry knew them apart but I had noticed that my sister Tamy was struggling telling the difference between them which wasn’t really a surprise she hadn’t been around them as long as the rest of us had.
“Need help?” Harry asked from the doorway. I was already finished dressing them and myself so all that was left really was to take them downstairs.
“Here take Nick.” I handed the quiet one over to his favourite uncle. They looked so cute next to each other, the only thing cuter would have been if we’d dressed them up with matching suits as well!
“Ready?” he asked and I gave him my nod.
“Happy birthday!” Everybody shouted as we descended down the main staircase. The house was decorated in a sea of greens, yellows and blues just the way I liked it. Tamy and Liam were both taking photos of us, Lou was watching from beside Rebecca, Zayn and Marina were clapping, Lottie and her man were arm in arm and the Horan’s were laughing at something with their little Lola.
I knew that it must have looked funny having Harry and I taking the kids down the stairs but I knew that nobody in this room would think anything of it, Lou didn’t mind and nobody else should. Harry looked so natural with Nick in his arms, they’d become close the last few weeks I just hadn’t noticed how close they’d been. Had they spent more time together than Lou and I had spent with them? Did that make us bad parents?
“Well, well, well you guys are still playing the happy couple I see?” The voice startled me, I hadn’t even noticed her walk into my house nor did I even know she was coming here.
“Lila?” I cheered excitedly and rushed down the stairs to greet her.
“Look at them, they are so cute!” she gushed holding her arm out for a cuddle. I gave her the biggest hug I could manage having a kid in my arms but she didn’t seem to mind the awkward positioning of it all.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” I asked her as I passed Connor into her arms.
“I couldn’t miss these guys turning one!” she exclaimed. Connor started playing with her mess of jewellery that hung from her neck.
“I’m so happy you’re here” I told her but she was too busy taking in the adorableness of the birthday boys.
